Okay, done. Please don't comment on my images. I appreciate a wide variety of people's thoughts on images, and I certainly don't expect everyone to like what I like. And I don't sugarcoat it when I dislike something.

However, you seem utterly unable to convey the slightest bit of tact or interest in finding anything positive unless it's your personal idea of perfection. In fact, you seem to go out of your way to find the harshest way to criticize.

Thanks.

You are not doing anyone any favours by posting your images for critique, and I'd venture to say that it's the other way around.

In that case, please consider yourself "told" from this point on.

Hey, I'm going to be a but_inski, here. Isn't the Reaction Club supposed to give you their first impression? If the first impression is not very good, why sugarcoat it. I would think that if you are going to post here you'd better make sure that you can take what is said. :) ;)
I'm not trying to insult. Just stating what I think is meant by th "Reaction Club".
agenkin: Feel free to critique any of my photos.

I took this for my mom - she made the outfit Bear is wearing here, and as she has just begun chemo treatments, it's likely that he'll have outgrown it before she can see him again.

Taken about 9:30 pm at home.
White seamless paper for background.
White foamcore reflector near his feet.
2x 500w halogen work lamps on a stand for lighting.

Thanks, guys. Jeff, I did tweak contrast - there's just not a lot to be had in the shot. Don, your reactions are always intriguing and very much appreciated. Kashi, don't recalibrate - it IS green. :-)

First impression is one thing.

Being told that I'm "not doing anyone any favours by posting your images for critique" coupled with the just-shy of outright rude "reactions" he's left is another.

I see. Maybe I should have gone back and read everything before I posted. Tact and politeness ideally should be throughout a critique. Whether it's a good or bad one. I'm reminded of Articwolf or Glacierwolf or whatever his name was from a few years back. His comment presentations were not acceptable to many at dpc.

I, personally, would rather have, "OMG, that sucks!" as long as they tell me why. I usually disagree but it makes me look harder to see what they say. Most of the time it's a personal preference thing and doesn't have anything to do with rules or guidelines of photography, composition, etc. Each person accepts and deals with things as they can. I remember one comment from Pitsman pertaining to my shot "looking like it was shot from a drunk photographers gallery" irked me. It cracked me up and I laughed but it still irked me. I finally begged him to retract it and he did. I'm laughing now but at the time it hit a raw nerve pertaining to a friend from the past.

I'm going to assume that since Arcady ignores my posts, the shots are not worth his time, which is fine. And I'm betting he hasn't bought a hat yet, either.

I want to be clear, Marjo, skewsme, etc: I welcome your thoughts on my images and I'm not trying to tell anyone else what they should feel toward agenkin's comments. He offered to not comment, so I took him up on it. Simple enough.

but these aren't critiques, per se. as you noted, they are reactions. presumably gut reactions. not that they need to be mean, but there are plenty of other places around here to get sweet-n-friendly, predictable feedback. besides, it seems like plenty of people make nasty unbalanced comments during challenges, usually with their heads in a bag. at least here you know you're opting in for random candor.

It's definitely not that. If you see my commenting history, you'll see that I don't cherry-pick the images to comment on. Usually, I just comment on three or four most recent requests when I check this thread, that's why I skip some pictures, but I swear that I go sequentially. :)

What's with the hat business? :) Just yesterday my wife wanted to buy me a hat, too. Well, I have a hat when I go hiking/canoeing; I'm going on a four-day canoing trip in a week, so I'll wear a hat then, okay? :)

p.s. I am not seeing that hat store owner any longer, when I pass by. The store is closed, most of the time, and, when it's open, there is an old lady in it, probably the gentleman's wife.

Sorry, Nick, I could not parse this. :)

BTW, was your last critique request a provocation?

Okay, to inject a little humor, and to get us back to actually reacting instead of reacting to how others are reacting to what we're reacting to ...

That strikes me as quite sad. :(
