Congrats, John! You will love the flexibility of an SLR. Which lenses did you buy? I spent hours and hours researching lenses and wound up getting the 50mm f1.4, the 70-200 f4.0L, and the 100mm f2.8 Macro. They all turned out to be excellent choices. No regrets at all...
I thought I would miss the wide angle end, but I haven't so far.
Also, where did you purchase from???

Nice, welcome to the team. Yeah I'm wondering which 24-70 you ended up getting, if any. I'd be interested in your lens choices. Smelly's choices sucked, by the way. Sure, I got the 50 1.4 and the 70-200 F4 too..but the 100 macro? Weird. Just plain weird. I went for the stellar 28 2.8 instead. One of the better Canon lenses.

I'm selling my F717 on eBay.ca starting today but I won't step on yer toes and post here just now. Initially I thought I'd use both but I think I'm gonna get a Canon Elph and maybe another lens with the proceeds (100 macro, perhaps?) and leave it at that. A camera to carry everywhere, and it takes a CF card to boot. No double-system. The F717 proved to be too similar in size to ever end up being a suitable choice over the 10D.

i think the 100 2.8 macro would be an excellent choice. i like using an 85 1.2 a lot, having a 50 1.4 and a 100 2.8 would be nice

I bought these:

Canon 75-300 f/4.0-5.6 IS USM
Canon 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 II USM
Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX Macro

I bought them from B&H...

Congrats John, I would love to hear your feed back on these 2 lenses that you are getting

Canon 75-300 f/4.0-5.6 IS USM
Canon 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 II USM

I have been looking and reading up on these 2 myself, I have heard good things about them, but I will have to wait until December or so to buy. Hopefully sooner.

Canon 75-300 f/4.0-5.6 IS USM- I have this lens. I dont like lenses that have the front element that turns during focusing but unless your going to spend big money on a L lens this is the way to go. The non IS version might be a good choice if you shoot ONLY from a tripod.

(if it sells do I get a cut for keeping this on the front page?)

I'd be interested in the Quantaray Skylight 1A (UV) filter (58mm) ($15.00). Don't know if you'll sell it separately...

How's your photo business going?

It's not really much of a business yet. I haven't started soliciting yet. All I have been doing for the last 6 months or so is photo restoration work and I have done quite a bit of that actually. I will probably get out of that because it's quite time consuming and I would rather be making photos.

I'm starting my own photography biz. Have no clients yet. Just passing out biz cards. I reference my pbase site //www.pbase.com/fsieradzki/my_stuff as my portfolio. I'm thinking of upgrading to a better camera. Was waiting for the new F828 but it won't ship till mid Jan.

Judging by the work that has come from this camera, I'd be willing to bet that by now, it knows how to to take great pictures by itself. I also heard this guy named Picasso is interested in selling some brushes...
