I know, I know photoshop works on macs. but I have a friend who asked me to help her find a "free" photoediting app. I don't know if gimp works. She can't even install ps cs2 because her os is os 10.1.5. Honestly, I don't even know what that means since I am a pc guy but do any of you have a suggestion as to what kind of app she might be able to get for her computer?

thanks

GIMP is the way to go if you want it free. It can be had here:

New Windows Adobe PS CS XX is due out the first part of Nov. Not sure if the Mac version will be available then or not. Lots of added programs to the suite. This time the full suite includes DreamWeaver also.

You can use Gimp for free, but uh... if you already have Photoshop CS2, why wouldn't you just upgrade to a more recent OS version so you can use it? OS X 10.1.5 is over 4 years old, and upgrading to the current version would cost less than $100 and give you many more benefits than Photoshop alone.

Gimp is free, but the last time I tried it, you had to run it using X11, which is a version of X Windows for OSX. It's also free, but it becomes a real PITA to switch back and forth all the time. It'd be worth upgrading the OS so she can run CS2, since it sounds like she has accesss to that program.

Picasa is not a photoshop equivalent, but it is, in my opinion, a perfect program for viewing and basic editing of photos. (lighting, saturation, crop, straighten, filtered b+w, and a limited-control yet very effective sharpening tool) Even edit jpeg white balance! No spot editing, though. I'm not sure if this is what your friend is looking for, but I love it.

edit:oops, no picasa for mac (at the present time, anyway)

If you are going to upgrade the system, just wait a few more weeks...Leopard (LOOKS SWEET!!!) is due to come out real soon. Will stop a hassle of paying again.
GIMP is probably your best bet.

I just put gimp on a ibook, and it works pretty well. I don't like how gimp does some things, but seemed to work very well on mac.
