Hi all

I have a 550ex and even with batteries fully charged I am only able to take about 10 pix before it goes off or take a while for it to turn on again. Also all the while the pilot light is red. Can anyone help, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you all for your time and help,

Le'lani

You might try cleaning the contact points on both the camera and the flash. You might just have a bad connection there.

also make sure the contact points are alligned and the flash is securely attached

Also, what kind of batteries do you use - I threw away 4 energizer LiIon batteries and replaced them with Rayovac ones, much better behavior! (Not a product endorsement, just my experience.)

My Sigma done this once. Try some brand new AA batteries. Not the rechargable ones. I put in new AA and it worked fine. I found my rechargeables had gone bad. I threw them out a nd got new ones. They don't last forever.

I used to use rechargables in my flash, but the huge drain on them kills them off pretty quickly. If you rely on your flash you might as well carry a few sets of a good brand battery around with you, personally I use Duracell Ultra M3, cant go wrong with those. Once the recycle time starts slowing down I out them and put a fresh set in.. I keep hold of the old ones to use in TV remote controls or my wireless keyboard etc..

i would guess it is your batteries. If the flash works good for a few bursts then it should work good for 100 bursts or more

My preferance BY FAR is rechargeables. Buy some good rechargables and you will be set for a few years. I have Vanson brand with 2400 mah, NiMH. Make sure you buy batteries with enough mah, or your recycle time will be way to long. These batteries also came with a charger (that takes an hour or so to charge) and a nice little box to store 4. Perfect for keeping groups of batteries together, when i switch them in and out of the flash.

Spend what it takes to get the best rechargables in your local hardware store and you won't regret it.

I have had NO luck with rechargables in my flash - I just get a case of energizers and go to the gig and throw them away as I go.

I feel OK about this because I charge it through to the client. :-)

if you buy some vanson batteries, you will have luck.

Fresh standard batteries solved this exact issue for me last night!
