My first thought was to name it after the country in which it's native but unfortunately Veiled Chameleons are native to Yemen and Saudi Arabia. Saudi just isn't a great name and I could never support Yemen since the country's appetite for ivory contributes so heavily to the poaching of wild ivory-toting animals. Would have been a cooler idea if these critters were from Madagascar or somewhere!
Um... Liz (for lizard since chameleons are a type of lizard)
Helmut (for the helmet ridge on their heads)
Hmmm, next thought, I just looked up the taxonomy:
Order: Squamata
Family: Chamaeleonidae
Genus/species: Chamaeleo calyptratus
Squamata is a cool word - how about that as a name?
Hmmm... perhaps I should get back to work... I'm probably not helping am I? :o)

I'm always fond of names like Butch, Spike, Killer, or Bubba, because it's just the opposite of her true nature! |

I'm rather partial to DPC-related names:
Ribbonator
Bokeh
Flash (just as funny to me as Fluffy)
Elsa Cloaked
Grey Scales
Ess RGB...
(You get the idea) |

Though there is some bad news... I went to turn off the lights for her today and noticed she had a buldge in her right eye and she was definetly frustrated (turned really dark green)..doesn't look good :(..I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow morning and hopefully she'll be ok..

I hope she's okay, she's pretty cute. Looks just like that little dinosaur from the land before time - Duckie.

Good luck for Sure! Have you had Chamies before? I can never keep the darned things alive, and I was manager of a pet store for 2 years! Other lizards are just fine...chamies are finicky though.
Good luck. Please keep us posted!!

Well, I think part of your problem is that a pet should have a first and middle names in addition to the family name.
The first name should be the personable name and the second name trait driven in some way:
(ie: Haku Blu is my snake's name. Haku is his personable name (derived from the movie "Spirited Away" which featured a bluish colored serpent dragon) and Blu due to his color tone as a Japanese Kunisar. I dropped the "e" so it related more directly to his first name.)
As for a name suggestion. I like "Calliope" as it sorta represents the variety and cacophony [of colors] she might be. Taking a name of yours, perhaps "Calliope Jade" or "Jade Calliope". |
