just checked out your website - very nice work

I guess I'm tentative now, but as things progress and plans start to become more concrete, I'll let you know for sure.

Thanks, hopper, on both counts! I checked out yours as well, really great portrait work! I especially liked the one with the baby being held up by the two hands, very, very nice! ~Sharon

Albany is only about a 5 hour drive for me, so I would be interested.

Let me know Neil... I would seriously consider a trek to your part of the woods.

I'm about 2 hours south of Albany now, and the leaves are already looking like they're getting ready. Another gtg group for the Ithaca region is moving their dates up a bit, thinking that Oct 7 and 8 might be near peak, or maybe the weekend following that.

Does anyone have a plan forming for where and when yet?

i was wondering the same thing....

I suggest the wknd of the 30th/ 1st. Let's go to Katerskill because it should be peak or near peak. (and Hopper knows how to get there :-) )

A tad off topic, but the Adirondack Hot Air Balloon Festival in Glens Falls is this weekend.

The 30th works for me, and I'd love to go back to Kaaterskill, as I said. We can also map out some other stops, like the abandoned resort I mentioned. If the rain keeps up, Kaaterskill will also be quite voluminous.

So let's try this: if we say the 30th for Woodstock Area: Kaaterskill/Abandoned Resort Area/Woodstock town, who would be in?

I'll be offline a lot this week as I will be traveling, but I'll try and check in.

I'll be visiting relatives on the 30th and can't attend.

If possible, can someone post directions or suggestions for shooting locations so I may learn the best spots?...for Kaaterskill, the Abandoned Resort and even good locations around Albany.

Adirondack Hot Air Balloon Festival

I tried attending last year on a Friday evening ~6pm at the airport launch and there wasn't much to shoot. 2 or 3 balloons took off and then night fell. Certainly not "60+ balloons" as the schedule stated. Any suggestions on where to shoot from or the best time to go? It seemed like standing next to the balloons isn't the best place for taking pics...maybe on a hill somewhere?

I'm up in the Adirondacks but can't make it the 30th.

But to anyone interested, peak is still probably a week or so out hear in the central Adirondacks. I'll be hiking in the northern High Peaks this weekend to see how it is up there (probably nearer to peak). Looks to be the best color in the last couple of years though!

I am in for either place! Would love to go to the Catskill region...

Should be free any weekend in October, if thats not too late, if it is, I might be able to make it on September 30th weekend as well !

Okay, I'm in. It's a bit of a hike over there, but sounds like it'll be well worth it! I'll just need to know where and when to meet, so I can be sure to leave in time to make it.

Put me down as a strong maybe. Would love to do it. Just need to make sure no other conflicts.

Any ideas on a specific agenda? Are we hiking in?

From what I read online when I googled Kaaterskill, I think we have to hike a trail in to get to the Falls. Not sure about any of the rest, though.

yes, it's a short walk from the car, followed by an easy 10-12 minute-ish hike in to the falls - i'm sure everyone can hike it without any trouble, it's more like a walk than a hike (until you get to the falls, then you can stay at the bottom and shoot up at the falls, or climb to the top, which gets really steep - but still do-able).

here's prozac's shots from when we went ... mine never quite made it to the internet :)

Put me down as a maybe as well for Kaaterskill on the 30th. I was there over the summer though and the roads to the bottom were closed. Commenters on the page hopper listed seemed to say the same at the beginning of the month. You could still drive into the parking area near the top though. Anyone know if the roads are still closed?

Adirondack Hot Air Balloon Festival

I am going up there for Sunday and Monday with the kids and stuff(working on Sat *^&%*%^ had to pick this day for an implementation). Hopefully will be a decent deal with the balloons on Sunday, otherwise I will have to find something else to amuse the kids.

Any info on the best places for shooting would be cool - After the look I got about a pre 6am start, I suspect that will be just me for the start of the day :-) and the kiddlies in the arvo.
