It don't care about the score. Let me just put that in the open right now.

It is the critiques are what bother me. It is kinda like when you say something, or try to convey a message, and they just don't understand what it is I am trying to say. And then... I get critiqued about it.

What am I talking about...??

My submission. It is supposed to be .. (and I am using other memebers words) 1.Fuzzy 2.A little blurry. 3.Foggy... etc etc etc

The message of the picture is to convey a sense of a "DREAMY" environment. So please stop telling me to use a tripod, when I wanted it to look "Foggy" , "Fuzzy" , "A little blurry"... BECAUSE IT IS WHAT I INTENDED. I know what I was doing.

Now...

Everyone have a nice day. :)

Goood luck on your photos. I have seen some really excellent ones.

Have you considered that maybe it didn't convey that feeling as well as you had anticipated...? When you submit an unusual shot, or something intentionally soft, that's the risk you're taking here... :)

I just check your other photos in portfolio and noticed:
They are fuzzy and soft focused
a: either your camera sucks
b:or the program you using for resizing the photos sucks

But they are very interesting subjects and I like the perspective you are using there!

That's why I hardly ever say it matches the challenge. Just write down what I like about the picture and sometimes how to improve it. That's pretty much all you need to comment on.

If you want a indepth critique. Bring it up on the forums and you should get some response. Just don't put anything related to your entry until after the challenge is over.

What I really hate is "Funny", "Good Picture", "Nice", etc. What's funny about it , why is it good, what's nice about it? Let me know. I think I rather get no comment then something like these sometimes.

well.. if you get bad comments, at least you know the reason for your low average.

I have had 9 comments so far, all of them truly appreciative (you can check them in the aftermath of the challenge).

The DOF is perfect, the lighting is extremely appreciated, details and composition as well. No critiques at all for being off topic. On the contrary, it is appreciated for being into the challenge in an interesting way.

Total: 4.4797 on 148 votes so far.

Does it not sound worse than having bad comments and a bad average??

Misteries of DPC!!

Note:
thank you to those who commented so kindly. I love you all.

If you check your scores afterwards, the average given by people who comment on your photo is almost always higher than the overall average.

I blame the economy.

How and why, if it is possible to know it?

With Soft focus shots ect its often hard to tell if its intentional. When I was doing wedding photography we often used vasseline on a filter leaving the center sharp to provide a dreamy, romantic feeling. I think this works better than having the entire picture out of focus, which is really what it is, whether it was intentional or not. I have also voted down some "soft focus" photos, usually they are TOO soft.

"Soft focus" is a technique I haven't even tried flirting with yet, but I have to wonder if it's mis-named. Whenever I see a well done "soft" picture, the last thing I think is that its out of focus. It seems to my eye to be a focused picture with some extra quality that gives it that glow. MarkS mentioned using vaseline to achieve the effect, and another recent tread discussed placing panty hose over the lens.

So, maybe what you can take away from this is that the effect you're trying to achieve - the soft, hazy, dreamy look - isn't being achieved by the technique your using - which I can only guess is being slightly out of focus.
