Man, this proves even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

I was in my small home town of Star, MS, when I felt this pull to go into this flea market on the side of the road. I go in there, and the first thing I see is this bundle of stuff:

Manfrotto 3415 pano head (list price: $530)

Manfrotto 3001BN tripod (list price $94)

Manfrotto 3047 3-way head (List price $91)

I GOT IT ALL FOR $50!!!

I was so pumped. Thanks for reading :-)

Wow!
Did you get me one too? LOL

You got a great deal, that's for sure.

Since a photographer probably didn't dump the stuff (unless it was someone that didn't like his last scores in a DPC challenge), it was probably a disgrunted or ex-spouse... or else stolen. But since it's not something you can check serial numbers or anything and you will never know, at least you can enjoy you great find.

I was so excited I didn't look at anything else, so I'm going back today. :-)

It had been there a while. It was pretty dusty, and it had already been marked down twice. Tag said $60, and I talked him down to $50.

Congrats on the great buy that you got!
What does a pano head do?

Wanna double your money :) ??

And it wasn't necessarily stolen, or an angry ex. You'd be surprised how often people want to unload stuff just to get it out of the way, sometimes without knowing or caring how much it might be worth. Congrats!

It might not be, Nova. But I still say the chances are that there is another reason it's there than someone that bought it decided to just dump it. It could be that someone bought it and then died and the family is selling it and don't know what it's worth. This happens in Ham Radio all the time. A guy spends thousands on his radio equipment, dies and his wife sells it to the first person that offers $100 to get that old junk out of the den. This might have been something like that. Although I still think a disgunted ex-spouse got a little revenge on her photographic ex. :D

Someone got hosed on that deal and it sure wasn't YOU :-)

Thanks for the offers, but I think I'll hang on to it for a while :-)

The pano head is a work of art though. Like a swiss watch.

The only downside is that this doesn't do spherical (multirow) panos. I think I can modify it using my panosaurus pano head though.

Congrats on the great finds!! I used to collect antique cameras (lost most of them in a flood a few years ago), but I would find them at flea markets and auctions for $.50 to $1.00. I had quite a few examples of working Kodak "pocket" cameras (with the bellows), Leicas, etc. Most of them worked if you could find film to fit them. It really is true that one person's trash is another person's treasure.

Keep looking (oh, yeah, let me know if you find any of those **ahem** ugly old white lenses -- I'm thinking of collecting those :))
