Like u all must be knowing, I am confused about buying a new LCD monitor. But there is one proble, here in india, that is no actual demo is available for viewsonic or dell products. Infact the dealers only have samsung and LG and that too 17" or 19". And i am planning on buying a 20" or 22" monitor.

But today i went to Sony world and saw their range of LCD TV's (not monitors) on display..... AND WAS IMPRESSED LIKE ANYTHING !!!!!

Now what i wish to know is that are the viewsonic or dell monitors comparable to the quality of these SONY LCD TV's (BRAVIA series). like I saw the KLV-S23A10. Although the resolution of LCD TV's is lesser than the monitors but the quality and contrast and viewing angles i saw were IMPRESSIVE infact outstanding. And there wasnt any ghosting also.

Since i cant see viewsonic and dell here with my own eyes and if i tell the dealer to get it then i will HAVE to buy it (that is how it works here in my city) only samsung and LG are the ones i can see and then buy. I am sure there must be many of you who have seen both the SONY and the viewsonic/dell.

SO JUST TELL ARE THEIR QUALITIES COMPARABLE TO SONY that i saw.

Thanks
response awaited !!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Just a suggestion, why don't you go read reviews on a hardware site rather than asking on a photography site. I'm thinking it may aid you more in your quest.

Monitor Reviews

Maybe the question may be on which monitors work well for photo editing... which there are a number of threads on this site.

I agree with Routerguy try someplace like Circuitcity.com they have customer reviews on most of their products. You will have manufacture descriptions and specs as well as owners thoughts all in one stop.

Samsung is starting to make some nice monitors but they are not the best priced.

Answer to your last question is. Yes, Sony is not the only player in the game. There are monitors out there that compare and even beat Sony.

Go here and type LCD Monitors in the search box and tick only the subject checkbox, you'll find lots of threads here on LCD's.

Edit: I'm not sure a TV would be suitable for Photo editting...

But you need to look at contrast ratio specs and such to know for sure.

Can I ask what format your tv's use in India NTSC or PAL ? It doesn't make much difference but if the format is PAL we would not have a spot on accurate comparison here in the states. I have never been able to compare the two formats side by side. But I have been told there is a visible difference in picture quality color temps etc. I have seen LCD monitors with crystal clear resolution absolutely mind blowing stunning. But I have also seen the same thing with LCD TV's I guess that depending on the brand model etc they are about the same.

Hope this helps you.

I have a Dell Ultrasharp flatsceen and I LOVE it. One of the coolest features is the ability to actually rotate the monitor to portrait orientation, which makes working on portrait/vertically oriented photos MUCH easier.

I have used and seen both the Dell and Viewsonic monitors. In the 20" range the Dell series are of a very high quality and provide an excellent photo editing environment. Their qulity is up there with the pro line Sony monitors.

As for the Sony TV you mentioned it is hard to compare with a computer monitor. From a purely image qulaity point I would say the the high end Dell and Sony LCD's match up with what youlikely saw pon the Sony TV monitor. But if you go Sony you would want to go with the high end Sony Premier line of computor monitor LCD's and they are very pricey.

Hope this helps.

I have an Acer AL1914 19" 1280x1024 LCD that I wouldn't trade for anything else. I picked it out in a store full of LCDs, it was one of the sharpest most colorful displays I saw in the store. It also happened to be one of the cheapest, primarily because it's 1280x1024 res and no DVI, but I don't see any problem with it. I've had it for a bit over year now and I could't be happier. You may think the resolution is low for a 19", and it is compared to some, but that is one of the reasons it looks so sharp and I really like it that way.

I haven't seen Sony, Viewsonic or Dell lately, but from what I hear from many customers online is that Dell LCDs are higher quality than Viewsonic.

I use twin View Sonic VP201s monitors and am very happy with the set up. Recommended.

Don't know the Sony offerings. I have a Sony laptop and like it's ultrabright screen. Haven't looked at Dell monitors ... which are probably made by somebody else and re-labled. But View Sonic has been around for years and builds great monitors.
