Don't vote at work then... nude pop up all the time during voting ...

No matter how much you try to make this sound like it's all a problem I have with the system, I will not feel shamed into shutting up. The rule exists. I didn't write the rule. Will you please tell me why you cannot comprehend that fact?

I can't enforce the rules, can you?

Only the SC can enforce the rules. There are much better ways to contact the SC for an SC problem. If you don't like the way the SC is doing their jobs then D&L wold be the people to go to.

Why start a thread open to the public if you don't want the public to respond? What kind of a reaction did you think this thread would really get?

Can you really not see how this might seem like there's more of an agenda here than just telling the SC they aren't doing their jobs well enough?

I'm a nudist by nature. I wouldn't have one iota of a problem with my own children seeing people naked, or pictures of people naked. Or being around people that are naked, or taking them to a nude beach or resort or whatever.. (if I had any.. but I know myself pretty darned well and what kind of parent I'd like to be.)

However.. The OP has a point.. which I've had to think about and consider.. and it's a good one.

Just how difficult is it to contain nude photographs to threads with a warning on them, or make them links instead of thumbnails? It's a matter of courtesy really.. no matter what your personal thoughts are on the matter.

We're a community here, and as such, we have to consider *everyone* in that community. Not just ourselves.. not just our beliefs and feelings.

And that is why compromises happen. Nudes are great, when done right. They're a part of photography and art. But they are something that needs to be separated and easily identified for a number of reasons, in order to maintain a decent level of respect and courtesy for those that don't wish to see them. (personal feelings about said people *COMPLETELY* aside. That's *not* at question here).

So yes. I agree that the forum rules, as written, should:

A) be enforced more strongly and consistently.

B) be followed more respectfully by everyone.

and C) be realized for what they are. A compromise intended to keep a majority of people happy and respectful.

Like anything, this is a matter that is highly polarized.. but if you can spare *one* small moment to put your personal feelings aside, and think for a minute about respecting the people that share this site with you.. you'll realize that it's a pretty good system. They allow us that like nudes and nude photography to have them here... but we compromise by keeping them in threads labelled as such, and having a responsibility to mark them as such for the filters. On the other side, the people that don't wish to see them are happy, respected, and stop having to complain about seeing it.

Win/Win really.

One last word: However, because of the nature of the site, of community, and of humanity.. it is *UNREASONABLE* to have an expectation that you'll *never* come across nudity on this site unexpectedly. A good reaction would be to report such instances, PM the owner of the photos and.. POLITELY.. ask them to make it a link or add it to the nude filter. Publically asking people, IMO, is a last resort method as it just opens the door to negativity. If reported posts go unanswered, you can always PM any SC member.. (or all of them), and get it dealt with. In the meantime, you know where to avoid for now.

That's just my public plea. Please *don't* get too upset or shocked or offended by the occasional accidental nude. Deal with it privately, and the site will be a better place.

Thank you all for participating in this discussion and keeping the topic fairly on track and not derailing to the point of getting this moved to Rant.

For those that have come into this discussion late I'm reposting my original comments for clarification. The first couple of pages have some pretty good feedback to catch up on if you haven't yet, and the website suggestion thread that fotomann_forever recently referenced is worth taking a look at and providing feedback on.

Again, many thanks, and good night.

Yes, I've posted this in Web Site Suggestion intentionaly, as it's a suggestion to make this web site work better...we'll see how long it lasts before moving to Rant.

Forum Rules, specifically rule #7, states:

"When posting potentially adult content, include a warning. When possible, include the warning in your subject line. If you are posting in an existing thread, consider carefully whether the content is appropriate for the thread. If it is, include a warning at the beginning of your post. Unless your warning is in the subject line, any images must be linked rather than thumbnailed or posted directly."

This means that posting nude images in a currently running thread should not be happening - yet it does happen, frequently.

When a posting of this nature is discovered it's usually an unwelcome surprise, especially when viewing this site at work. I imagine it could be an issue with minors as well.

I would think the intention of Forum Rule #7 was to eliminate these kind of surprises.

I'm an adult, and don't mind seeing a little skin when done in a tasteful manner - but I don't think it's right for this kind of imagery to show up unexpectedly.

As a side note, I'm disappointed in the uneven response from those responsible for enforcing Forum Rule #7. Sometimes the response to a 'Report Post' for this rule is handled in a timely manner, sometimes it's ignored completely.

Last item related to this subject. Why aren't all images that contain nudity classified in the Nude category? The Nude preference (to hide after voting) setting in 'My Preferences' blocks maybe half of the nude images that show up on this site.

Thanks Langdon!

I just noticed today (in 30 Day Self Portrait thread) that the thumbnails for adult (nude) images posted to forums now have a placeholder 'hidden due to content' jpg. Makes the site much easier/safer to browse at work. ;^)

And what if your child is looking at this site and this person has not flagged images as nude?

I think GeneralE made the point a while ago, that he would rather his kids see breasts (which they already knew about, as all kids do), than guns and violence. I sort of agree, I don't think it'll hurt kids to see an odd boob here and there when they're looking over their parent's shoulder. They can't see boobs shooting people on TV and then go steal a boob and shoot their classmates with it..

Not quite sure what you are trying to say here, but do we NOT have a right to our opinion as well. If I choose, as a parent, not to allow my kids to see nude..does that make you right and me wrong? NO..I don't allow my kids to look at nude magazines, pictures on the website. I don't care if they are clean or not. That is my way of being a good parent. They have enough to think about.

Do I mind nudes myself? NO..I have actually take quite a few. The body is a beautiful thing.

I think everyone reading these forums should beable to have an opinion all their own without someone trying to tell them how to live their life or how to think and feel or even argueing whether or not someone doesn't have free time at work.

remember when reading forums ..always have an open mind
