I just recently got back from Alaska and almost every day there was very overcast and hazy. I was editing my pictures and got tired of all the skies being drab so I tried to take the sky out of a picture of the only day that was sunny (but unfortunately there were no really good picture oppurtunities that day) and add it to this picture of the Alaskan Range in Denali. But I dont know if it quite beleivable. Can any body give me an opinion?

its borderline

I'd expect to see a brighter foreground with a sky that blue, but the clone job is pretty good.

doesn't work for me either

Do you think this is better with a brighter foreground?

I'd probably just brighten the field a bit more but leave the mountain the way it is. Also, I think your sky could be cleaned up better using the patch and healing tools.

To clarifly the edges of some of those clouds look too fake. Use the patch tool to clone some of the good edges in the clouds to the places that need it. Then use the clone/healing tool to give it a bit of a unique look so it doesn't have the same exact pattern.

It's not bad... Two things sort of look strange: 1) The white line between the clouds and the mountains in the middle of the image. You could remove that pretty easily. 2) Those type of clouds would not come down to the mountains like they are in the pic. Still, it looks somewhat believable.

Good job! :)

Can we see the original shot? Of the mountainscape I mean.

I think the second version is an improvement, but still could use some touch ups in the sky.

Just 5 more weeks and I'll be living within an hour of there!

IMO, I would have not taken a second look had you not mentioned it. It looks believable to me! I really like both versions, but I prefer the 2nd. Beautiful :)

Not really working for me... you have a flat diffused light on the forground and the mountain with greyish undertones, and a vivid blue sky... even if ppl dont know why it doesnt quite work... their mind tells them that something isnt quite right... post the original and maybe we can give some suggestions...

Colors and impact are good. But the cloud focus looks fake to me--sharp on the edges, blurred in the middle of each. Also, the clouds steal the whole scene--maybe not something you want to do since they should be there for support. Just my two cents!

I keep getting that when looking at it. Something is not quite right.

I'm getting the same feeling from it.

The problem for me is that the top edge of the mountain is too distinct. Maybe it needed to be feathered or something, or maybe you just don't see an outline like that in nature with clouds behind it, because of the way the cloud system would have to negotiate the terrain. I think if there were going to be clouds, then the whole area would be misted and you wouldn't really see the clear mountain top.

Be sure to get an opinion from a local..... Beyond a technical perspective you need to know how realistic it is for that mountain to have skies like that.

They don't look real at all to me. Miles from real. The angle and the lighting are both wrong, the clouds and the foreground are clearly shot from different perspectives and it in different light.

Thanks for all the comments. I agree with what most of you have said. I guess I will just have to live with the fact that I had some bad luck on my vacation or somehow become a photoshop superuser.

What does the original sky look like? Maybe that can be improved instead.

I am at work now, but I will post the original when I get home in a few hours.

Here is the original, only resizing was done.

I think the original can look nice anyway, without the added sky.

Auto levels, Lighten shadows by 25%, and a tad of increased saturation, and you get quite a funky landscape IMO.
