We all learned 9 in highschool, right?

Well now there's 8. Yepp...Pluto is no longer considered a planet of our solar system because its orbit is oblong and interferes with Neptune's orbit.

I just saw that. Congrats to Xena! (actually Ceres)

edit to add Ceres

I'm taking the day off because I'm mourning the loss of a planet.

That'll teach other planets who are thinking about being oblong and interferring with other planet's orbits!

Many Volcanoes Erupt Mulberry Jam Sandwiches Under Normal ...

Actually, I think there are now eight major planets and several minor ones, of which Pluto is one.

Or something...

Is this a done deal - I've been following the recent debate but - is there an appelate court that Pluto can file a motion to complain, a Supreme Court or something? It's a shame to have other people that you don't even know downgrade you to a celestial object of no importance.

I demand a recount!

Mickey Mouse's dog, or a lesser orbiting object

It's a "dwarf planet".

I heard a great piece on NPR yesterday about an unseen ramification of the decision to downgrade Pluto: this may throw astrology for a loop!

Actually it is is a minor planet now, the designation of lesser orbiting object or whatever has been set for things like asteroids, etc.

Well, at least we still have Uranus...

I suppose this means that places like NinePlanets.org are going to have to change their name. And what about all of those encyclopedias and school science books?

Now all the fortune tellers will have to get new cards.

Or I suppose they could just toss out any cards refering to Pluto.

Yeah at least 2. I read in the paper about a week ago that there is going to be a naming commete (SP) soon to name at least two new planets, maybe give Pluto it's planet status back and upgrade som objects that where considered sattelites (or something) so our little solar system might actually grow to 12 planets....

I guess that explains the disturbance I recently felt in the Force - as if a million voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

I say pluto is right, and all the other planets are going the wrong way.

I have re-read the rules and I cannot find anywhere it says an oblong orbit is grounds for a DQ.
