ARG!! I was just thinking the other day that I wished we could have a silhoutte challenge in November or December. I am pregnant, and I had a great idea for a silhouetted maternity shot. Unfortunately, I look more fat than pregnant right now, I am only 15 weeks. Is it too early to wish for a Silhouette IV challenge in Late November? ;-)

Same problem here.... I just did a maternity shoot last month.

Oh, those are BEAUTIFUL!!! What was your set up? I was going to do mine in front of a window since I don't have any lighting.

Ah, I guess I am in good company in spotting this challenge and groaning that only if this was done on I would have had a good one. So like the "Arrrrr" the stereotypical pirate belts out I shall cry "Arrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh" and sigh at an opportunity missed -

Here's the only one I had in my portfolio (and a detail from it) until I went to the Alps a few weeks ago. I'm guessing this level of processing would get voted low.

Here's the one I took in the mountains:

This should be a really nice challenge.

how do you get the foreground so dark, while the background is in color? When I take a picture, the foreground won't get dark...

When you take the picture, try to make the background as bright as possible.

In the ones I posted, I then used software to darken the whole picture, which dropped the figures to absolute black. Coming out of the camera, there was still a litle detail.

Set your camera to spot metering and focus on the lighter-than-the-subject background, recompose the shot, then click away.

Q: does the subject/silhouette has to be full black ?

To get a silhouette the subject needs to be backlit. Just shoot something where the light is coming from the back of your subject, and meter so that the subject goes black.

In my opinion you haven't really got the subject in silhouette, the is still a lot of detail on the subject.

Also if you are planning on entering a picture in a challenge don't show it here.

I think silhouettes can have some detail in them but the background cannot be distracting, IMO.

No rest for the wicked! Team Se7endipity have a bye week in week 7 of WPL2. I've been called out on a camera phone challenge this week but I must have been drunk when I agreed it would be submitted to the silhouette challenge.

One thing my cam phone is not good at is dark areas. I'd be alright if this was advanced editing but guess I'm right in thinking all allowable editing steps need to be done to the entire image? For instance, would be using the eyedropper to set the whitepoint in levels be ok?

I took a shilhouette-picture on the evenening of the 22nd of August... unfortunately there's no time left to do one of those shots again...makes me really sad. my model became ill and we both don't have time. well, here it is without being in the challenge...

It is the first challenge I have participated in.
I was just wondering how would I come to know about my scores while voting continues?
I saw people posting their scores in other forums.
I am sorry if I am asking a stupid question...

once voting starts you will see updates on your home page. just click on the "My Home" link at the top. the stats will update once per hour. If you become a member you can update them on demand - thats very addictive :)
