You're welcome, but now I have a bone to pick with you! ;^) I use PSP X and never even thought about using a post-processing method to achieve a soft focus look.

I went the old-fashioned way using filters; you know, the kind attached to the lens. He-he. Now you've got me wondering...

This is funny glad2badad. I never thought to use nylons or plastic. hehe. I will be trying that if I can't use the feature. I wrote and am waiting for an answer but I think it should be ok.

I've used plastic and cellophane but I much prefer the results with a diffusion filter. Didn't think using blur in editing would give the same effect. So my entry is almost straight out of camera. I expect a 5.4... :)

A 1/2 second exposure on a gently moving subject works nicely too :-)

Use of infrared naturally softens images and gives that diffuse glow, so I think its use in this challenge would be good. Also, shooting at high ISO with some overexposure might give a pleasing result for this challenge as well.
I'm also wondering if the Gothic Glow ps action is legal.

It isn't. It uses layers in other modes than Normal for one.

Unfortunately, PSP (through 9, I haven't checked X) doesn't have a way to fade gaussian blur unless you use layers, and layers are not legal, so the method described elsewhere (gaussian blur at low percentage, faded immediately after) will not work for PSP users. Or if it does, I haven't found it.

It's a good thing I found that out. I just got a new shot in this afternoon using celophane. Darn stuff works pretty good. Thanky you for the hint on that fotomann_forever.

I think that is a pretty limited view of soft focus. To me this sounds like a DQ or a reason to vote low if you use a diffusion filter, vasoline, a shoot through a foggy window.

Am I reading this right?

Nope. Fade is not available in PSP - have to do it with layer work (opacity), which, as duly noted, is not legal in basic.

I've got a question for the SC... isn't Classic Editing the same as Basic Editing now ?...seems to me, I see the winner of the first Soft Focus Challenge used PSP 8...and it's Soft Focus adjustment over the entire image...she admitted using it..not much..But..she used it..as I read over the rules..I see no difference between "Classic" and "Basic"..

Don't have filter. Can't screw it on if don't have.

I tried the celophane. It looks great in the lcd monitor but terrible on the computer. I am going to try vasaline. If that doesn't work then I'm going for rope and hang myself. hehe.
