Here is a picture of myself and the beast I have to endure everyday at work :P

And I am just kidding about his viciousness. He's the most lovable beagle in the world. He works hard at the airport as a detector dog. Our dogs are trained to tolerate ear and tail tugs as well as being around the very busy environment that are airports. And he's not used to find drugs. His job is to sniff out all sorts of agricultural products such as meat, fruit, vegetables and live animals that people bring into Canada from all over the world.

The biggest problem I have with many travellers is that they find Snoopy so darn cute that they keep wanting to pet him.

Anyway, I find that he's pretty cool and I just wanted to share.

Have a nice weekend.

Hey big brother.

Snoopy totatlly rocks. Maybe you should blur out his little doggy weewee, because DPC rules say no penis. lol

How long have you been doing this job? Must be getting close to two years. You have to tell the boys about the hot chicks you got to meet because of your job ... Niomi Campbell. Who else?

Nice pic - I would pet snoopy too.

As far as the pennis, how about the Life shot with a peepee? How is that still there? lol

I think my luggage has been sniffed by snoopy, at the vancouver airport. It was my one and only time to see a sniffing dog at the airport and the one time I brought, well a cuban cigar over the border for a friend, I was never so scared!! He may not be vicious but he is effective! LOL

Beagleboy is my brother. He is the only sniffer dog dude officer in the atlantic provinces (Eastern Canada). So anyone that saw a sniffer dog at the Halifax Airport got sniffed by Snoopy. He's a pretty kewl dog ... he lets drugs go by (lol. only trained for food products). Just don't try to pass a hashish brownie by him.

Beagles are cute, but chow chow's are cuter, much like a giant fluffy teddy bear! :P

For all the dog lovers, taken today at a All breed dog competition.

You could get Snoopy one of those guide-dog harnesses, and yourself some really dark sunglasses. More people know they're not supposed to mess with working guide-dogs. Along the way, your own senses of smell and hearing will probably improve.

There are three beagles working at Vancouver:
- Charlie (same face as Snoopy, but a lot more white on his body)
- Shadow (taller beagle with finer pointy nose)
- Daisy (big beagle, mostly white)

Like my bro said, if you got food in your bags and your travelling from the States or overseas and arrive at Halifax, Snoopy will find you.

Yeah and if Snoopy finds some illegal food on your or in your luggage, standard procedures will be undertaken: My bro will ask you to take off your shoes, then Snoopy will poop in your shoes and you'll be forced to put back your shoes. Then you'll be fined a $100 buck which will go towards the Jacko lens fund.

Standard procedure would be for me to offer a contribution to the JLF, and to smash up the avocado and pretend it's the other stuff ...

I'm always nervous when I have to walk past these guys at customs. I usually have some candy or something in my backpack. Do they not like sugar?? How about flower bulbs? I was so tempted to bring some back from Amsterdam. They sell them all over the airport, and my friend brought some back only a couple of months ago. I'm just too chicken to try it because once I saw a little old couple stopped with some bananas that they were saving from their breakfast on the plane. They were really scared!

That woould be a cool job -- working with a cute dog all day.

I would hope that sniffer dogs let chocolate bars through (I love European chocolates).

Take a look at her within my profile.

Lots of people get nervous when they see any type of detector dog sit by their luggage. The best thing to do is ALWAYS declare to Customs what you have in your bags. If you delcare something and it's prohibited (i.e. citrus entering USA or vaccumed packed meats enetring Canada from other countries than the USA), you simply get the product confiscated and you are let go. That's it. The problem arises when people DON'T declare prohibited items. In that case they lose their product AND get issued a monetary penalty of up to $400. Tching-tching!

Our beagles are trained to be selective in what they alert to. Our dogs do not respond to chocolate, sweets, pastries, etc but are trained to find meats, certain types of fruit and vegetables, live plants, seeds, soil and live animals. Snoopy even found a stuffed toad from Nicaragua once!

As for tulip bulbs from the Netherlands, they are allowed entry into Canada only if they have been approved by Canada and the Netherlands and must have a special sticker on the box.

Denis,

In 1991, I was sent to the country of Trinidad and Tobago by the Prime Minister's office shortly after the political uprising and attempted coup to help assess the damage to the T&T broadcasting facilities caused by the estimated 1500 rounds of random machine gun fire inside the studios and control rooms.

Upon my return to Toronto's Pearson International Airport, we were all given a very serious customs check. I assumed that they were looking for drugs. While waiting patiently for our luggage to arrive, a Canada Customs Officer was standing next to me. He politely asked me to place my laptop computer bag on the floor. Laptops were still very rare and extremely expensive in those days and I did not understand why I was to place my prized possession on the floor. When I failed to properly comprehend what he wanted me to do, he repeated his request in a much firmer tone. Foolishly, I asked why? Instead of answering, he now sternly instructed me to comply or else, which I did immediately.

Then, a cute little dog, a beagle just like yours, appeared from behind the officer's legs and began sniffing my bag. I had not even noticed this dog before. I was instructed to squeeze the computer bag. I guess to expel the air within it. I did as I was told and all was fine.

The problem was that I started laughing hysterically. I saw this scene as incredibly funny. This little dog wore a huge oversized green saddle blanket with the words, "Agriculture Canada" written along each side. It looked hilarious to see these large letters stretching around this little dog's sides. The officer instructed me to stop laughing at his dog. I tried, but without much success. He and the dog then went off to sniff others. The dog was later was seen walking on the conveyer belt overtop of the incoming luggage (I have always wanted to do that too!).

I tried to approach the officer again. But, he refused to look at me and acted like I was not even there. I tried to apologize, but he was not very interested in speaking with me again, so that's how it ended. I must admit that it still strikes me as a very funny scene. But, I hurt the handler's feelings and regretted it later. I don't think that the dog cared much either way.

I have never seen him again, just a beautiful Golden Retriever that works out of T2. So, Denis, if that was you and your dog visiting Toronto, please accept my apology on behalf of all the handlers in the service.

Cheers,
Michael

We went to Vancouver one time, it was all paid for by a lighting manufacturer in the area. They flew a small group of Engineers from across the United States to Vancouver to tour their factory and to show us how their products were manufactured. And to help show us how to design, perform accurate calculations, and specify their specialty lighting products.

Only two from our office were allowed to go. So we drew straws and I was one of the lucky ones that got to go. We decided to take our wives along with us and had to arrange to pay for their hotel and airfare.

We were transported in stretch limousines. We were catered for entire week, even with dinner and drinks on a large yacht cruising the bay at nightime. It was great.

When we were leaving and going through customs, I was startled when a large German Sheperd that jumped up behind me, I did not see him coming. When I turned around the dog was all over the Engineer and his wife behind me, it was the other Engineer from my office.

The next thing I know they dragged my friend and his wife off to this little room and proceeded to search everything and all openings, so I was told later. We waited for what seemed like hours and the flight was due to leave within minutes.

They finally released them and the only thing they could figure was that the people that stayed in the hotel room before them were using drugs and the scent had rubbed off on them!

Needless to say this was a terrifing experience for them and one that they will never forget.

Just thought I would share this;

Calvus
