I guess I should say hi. I don't really like to post in forums with all the young people. I did want to introduce myself though but didn't see a place for newcomers like a introduction forum.

I am happy to be here. I entered the peas contest and the stupid contest. I am not sure what a good score is yet. I am waiting to see how I end up in the end to find out more about the scores.

I would like to be a member here someday but my own challenge at home is a financial challenge. Not even the $5 is able to be done with my budget. I wish there were more contests for those in my position. I could only enter one this week. I had so much fun with the peas and the stupid one. It would have been nice to enter another one.

I did spend some time going through the gallery and picking some favorites and leaving some comments. I had a few very nice replies. I want to thank those people for the letters I got.

I hope I get less shy in the future but I just wanted to say hi for now.

I think you will find age doesn't matter much here -- and no you are not the only Grandpa around.

Welcome to the site, sounds like you have a good way of getting to know us (entering challenges, comments and such).

Welcome, Ed.

I know what you mean about entering just one challenge per week. I was didn't like it my first week, so I found the $25 for the year's membership shortly after. As far as the good score? I don't know, apparently, my photography skill either sucks or is too far out there to get good scores. I think anything 5.5 and up is considered fairly good.

I have learned quite a bit since I've become a member, just from being able to enter into the challenges and from the comments, so it's worth it.

This is a relief. I'm glad I am not the only grandpa. It's hard to be around only youngen's. I'm really a quiet kind of guy.

I came here when my daughter told me of the contests you all have. I thought it was a good idea. I registered for that but I don't know anything about prints. I read some of the forum but I am not one for talking much.

The pictures on this site are terribly brilliant. I could spend all day going through them all and picking so many for my favorites lists. I don't know if there is a limit to what I can pick. I like to leave comments so I am glad people like to get them. I don't know how to be great at the comments so I just put what I feel.

If a 5.5000 is good then I guess I am holding my own in peas and in stupid I am over a 6.000. I am very happy then.

Time for dinner but it was nice to say hi and meet a few of you.

Too much bitterness around here for you lately, Skip?

Welcome Ed! Over 6.0 on your first challenge.
Wow! You'll probably land in the top 10 percent.
56 is old? Darn, I've only got six years until I'm old. ;) I still feel 20. If you want to feel young ya got to hang out with the young uns! Most everybody I've met in here is young at heart.

Hello and welcome! I totally hear you on the budget issue. A lot of my props tend to be edible so that it comes out of the grocery money and I don't feel bad about buying something I'll never use.

Welcome the the asylum :)
The really cool thing here is the complete range of talent and experience levels and of ages, and how well they all mix. Yes, it's a competition site but you won't find folks jealously guarding their secrets and techniques, rather they're happy to share and teach.

No question is too stupid (well, rarely, at least!)and people are always willing to help out, so feel free to ask lotsa questions.

It sounds like you're off to a great start score-wise, too :)
Before I became a member, thanks to Mk, I often took on the challenges even though I couldn't enter them and used them as learning experiences.
Soak up all you can, then if circumstances change and you do end up with a membership, you'll be ready to blow us all out of the water! :D

But most of all, relax and enjoy; we're a great buncha folks.

This is truly unbelievable. What a terrific welcome. I chose another favorite from awpollard. Thank you. The picture is great. Hummers are my favorite of all nature to take pictures of. They are small and colorful and fast as lightning. Hard to get but I have a few pretty good pictures of them from this summer.

JOHNBOY1970 I don't believe it? You can't mean you are going to make me a member? What an unselfish act and you are amazing. I can't even believe I read that. If there is a way and you do it I am forever greatful to you.

I am so thankful to all of you. You really are a great crowd of people. I will try to not be so shy and be around more. I will try real hard in the contests and to give comments and keep choosing favorites.

Thank you again and see you in the contests
Ed

Welcome aboard Ed. It's very nice to meet you. :-) As you can probably tell already, DPC has a great sense of community and some really wonderful people. You'll fit right in. :)

All in favor of giving JOHNBOY the good neighbor of the week award, say "I"! Well done, johnboy, well done. :-)

Welcome Ed and congrats on your membership, start filling that portfolio up! I looked over the pics you selected as favorites and noted the conspicuous absence of any of my shots in there - a temporary oversight I'm sure! ;-)

Since you like hummers, here's a recent shot I took for which I was lucky enough to escape with a ribbon:

Hi Ed! Seems like your participation has been spot-on, and is exactly the sincere type of photographer this site was intended for. I'm just getting into gear around here as well, and also feel that limit as far as available challenges really fitting what my mental pictures are. I prefer to hold off on a membership, since my editing skills are nil...but you, in no time, will become a wonderful addition whether registered or member.

Welcome!! I LOVE your profile image - just BEAUTIFUL!! It took some months before I took the plunge for membership. I actually paid for a membership, then sold enough prints on DPCPrints to pay myself back for the cost of the membership. If you can afford to put up the money, it's something to think about.

Hope you have a nice stay here at DPChallenge. There are some that are quirky, but that's what makes life interesting. You will learn a lot if you let yourself.

See you around!!

I was browsing and saw more great pictures. I will have a lot of favorites in my list. I saw there was more to read so I stopped by.

JOHNBOY1970 it is the thought that counts. I think that is a great trait to have to offer like you did. You are a really nice person.

I have some pictures done now. A couple of horse and goats and some hummers. I give all the credit to my camera though. All I do is set the camera up point it and it does the rest.

Thank all of you again for the welcome and the hummer picture I missed. It must have been an oversite. It is a favorite now.

You are all great people.

Greetings to you to C Novack. Thank you.

persimon prints I don't know how to do. I can make some pictures at home, but I don't know about professional prints to sell. I dont think they will be big enough. I take the pictures big as I can sometimes but then I crop it a lot most of the time. I will have to try it when I can and see what happens. Thank you for the information. It's a good idea to get back your monies.

Ed
