That's great news Cheerz. I look forward to the time you can say that I just paid for my camera from my sales. Believe it or not...time will fly.

I certainly wouldn't say that. You have quite a good eye as far as I can see.

congrats :)

I am sure once you learn what the different sites are looking for, that the acceptance ratio will improve considerably.

I tried to get on with Shutterstock and they tore my first 10 pictures up. They didn't accept any of them so I am in the 30 day withholding period. I took the forget them attitude and registered with Fotolia and they have taken all but one of my photos. I got my first sale this week too. I am up a dollar. I know I won't get rich off of it, but thought it would be fun to see what happend.

I am not NEW but I just wanted to say, don't give up on it right away, you will get the hang of it and find out what the sites want and what sells best the more you are at it. Shutterstock is a great site when you get accepted so don't give up on that on, Shutterstock is a great money maker.

Im also looking at getting into stock and have yet to submit any images but I am curious from those who have submitted images. What kind of feedback, if any, do they give when a photo is rejected? I dont mind having my acceptance rejected, but it would be great if they included why so I could work on improving.

all i know is that they rejected one of my pictures for an "unnacceptable noise level" even though it didn't have any noise! Lol...I examined a 100% crop after they rejected it and vwuallah, nothing! I think they have too many pictures and too few people.

I'm in at luckyoliver.com, though they're still very new and don't see much traffic. My app is in at iStock, and if they reject the three I gave them then I think I might just go mad. Shutterstock rejected seven of my ten for unacceptable noise - apparently they like photos only if they've been Neat Imaged to death.

I'm also in at luckyoliver. While I've had very few rejections, there hasn't been any business. I've even checked their top 50's, and they're not selling. I hope it's just because they are new. I submitted to istock and shutterstock at the end of last week. I'm not sure how long it takes to find out if you're rejected or not.

I've got 3 out of my first 10 rejected from Sutterstock..
still waiting for the cold-turkey period to be over!

Sigh..

I just uploaded my first batch of model shots to Dreamstime. Normally, they drive me mad with what they will and will not take (their reasons often make NO sense). But given their new rights-management system, I thought I'd start with them in hopes of making a bit more that way. If they reject them, then I'll turn to the other 3 that I belong to.

Having been on 4 sites for almost a year, I have a total of about $40 spread between them. Not a lot, but then I've been slacking for about 7 months in regards to getting new stuff up. The goal is to make enough in the next year to finance a 30D.

Oh my Brent, that's the bunch you just posted here?
What a pity...

I felt that this one makes a pretty good stock..

Oh well.. let's try harder...

Hmmm...a bit confused here. Maybe I wasn't clear. The new model shots are still pending with Dreamstime. I won't know for another 3 days if they are accepted or not. However, in the past, Dreamstime has had strange reasons for rejecting some of my images, and that's what drives me mad about them. I normally deal with them last because of it, but with this shoot, which was done primarily for stock use (and practice), I decided to try with them first.

Make any better sense now? :-)

Yes Sir...

I'm sure it'll be accepted.. ;)

I started two weeks ago. Right now I'm making about $10 a week. One thing it's taught me is that I have a lot to learn. I have just as many rejects as I have had acceptances, mostly for noise. Once I found Noiseware Pro, I redid some and they were accepted. It's a learning process for me and I can see work getting better a little at a time.

For those that are getting photos rejected for noise is there a discernable trend? Are the images largely shot at higher ISO's or does it really vary?

Microstock has paid for my dSLR. I don't make much money from my regular jobs, so it good for continuing the hobby.

Mine are shot almost universally at ISO-50. So that would be a no. :P

shutterstock is a very big stickler for noise.

No matter how large your sensor is, or how expensive your camera is, or what ISO you use.... if you are shooting a blue sky, you WILL have noise, and have to run it through noise software.

pretty well anyhow :)

Usually they reject with canned responses, I have yet to have them tell me exactly what they are talking about. "Unnaceptable noise", "undue artifacts when viewed at full size", they also comment on chromatic aberration and sometimes composition.

I use a few different micro stock agencies, and if a photo doesn't make it, I submit it to all of my "secondary" agencies. So far, out of the 5, someone always accepts them. It pays to have backup agencies.

I've had a couple of downloads so far, and they've taken most of my submissions. They do give the best, specific feedback when they reject a picture, and they have a pretty upbeat attitude -- they have a photographer get-together/workshop this week on portrait photography.

Shutterstock has gotten way pickier (especially about noise) as they near 1 million photos. However, I just re-submitted some of my recent kite pictures, which were originally rejected for noise, with more "aggressive" NR settings, and they took them second time around.

Don't waste your time with the penny stock agencies. Get into alamy or myloupe. I sold one photo on myloupe in the month I've been there for more money than most people make with better photos over at istock or shutterstock.
