Here in the east coast (of the US) everyone's boarding everything up for Hurricane Isabel. I'm sticking around to take pictures! It may not be the smartest move, but this is my home, and since I'm riding out the storm, I might as well take pictures!

dont forget to fill the bath tub with water so you can flush the toilet, and fill up some containers with water for drinking water. keep the batteries charged, and candles and matches handy. Also its a good idea to fill your car up with gas before the storm arrives, and fill the cooler up with your favorite adult beverage or soft drink and lots of ice.

Isabelle hasn't scheduled a visit with us, here in Florida, BUT she may change her course. All of the tips below are right on!
In addition stock up on foods you can eat without power, and please don't forget about any pets you may have. If you have cats, they should be confined if you need to evacuate the premises. What I do, rather than cat carriers, which mine don't like, I put each cat (I have two) into a rectangle, plastic laundry basket. Then I place an identical one on top of it and secure them with tape, string, or twist ties. Please if you use twist ties, take extra care to assure they aren't sticking out, where the cat could be injured. It's a good idea to have an id tag on them too.
I've stocked up on pet food.
I always keep back up water and canned food, as well as breakfast bars, dried fruit, etc.
A first aid kit, a water proof container for matches, Disposable utensils, and cups and plates, paper towels and toilet paper, may come in handy too. Always keep a bottle of chlorine bleach for disinfecting, and for water supplies.
AND...of course my camera batteries will be charged up and raring to go.
After living in the wilderness area of the Adirondack Mountains, and being without electric for 4 and 5 days in minus 20 degree temps, we learned that simple preparations would make a vast difference in those times.
One other thing comes to mind. Have a place picked out where you will meet loved ones if you are forced to leave home, and the phones aren't working. That way you can find each other, and be greatly relieved.

That is one thing I can say. My house is Brand new and it has Hurricne shutters. Cat 4 or Five storm will destroy anything that is not a Monolithic Dome structure or any structure that is strong enough to be buried under 30 feet of dirt without collapsing. Remember one thing. if any window breaks or any door gives way there goes your Roof and your life. Just be careful. Do not go anywhere near the coast.
Make sure your Garage Door is strong becuase that is the thing that causes structural integrity to be lost. Once that blows in kiss your roof good bye. :-(
I hope you are doing the right thing.
Be careful. I hope you have a basement.

This is an image that I took on Friday at Sea Isle City, NJ. It was so windy that the sand on the beach was blowing and it made the sand look like a stream. Incredible --I can hardly wait for the real storm (NOT) |

Wonder what I did wrong trying to get the image in here. I read the link that someone had posted. Oh well, if you want to see the precursor to the ocean/beach before the hurricane you can look in seascapes. It is entitled sea isle.

Ok. Friday morning I woke up to catch the surf pounding the rocks at the local beach. Granted it was an ok surf It will get a lot better. In the next two days. We are not suppose to get the 15 to 20 foot waves they are going to get up north but this will give you some kind of an Idea of what you are in for. :-) I bet you never guessed that the Florida Seascape looked like this. Enjoy.

I was reading the Times and came across this -- got her priorities straight I would say
Mary Bingham, 38, was not waiting for orders. She packed up her dog, cat, two small daughters, a butterfly cocoon and all the photo negatives she could grab.

| I was worried when I heard that DPC-Central (Virginia Beach) was in Isabel's crosshairs, until I heard (via Dave Ross of CBS Radio) that the Christian Broadcasting Network is also located at ground zero, and that Pat Robertson and the 700 Club are even now organizing to take steps to ensure that the storm is turned back out to sea. |

I'm far enough inland that my biggest problem with be rain and more rain. Low lying area's are being issued flood warnings. We are expecting in excess of 6 inches of rain between Thursday evening and Saturday morning.
I took advantage tonight and got out to shoot some photos. The sunset was intense tonight, extremely pink. We have a slight wind developing already know both are beacause of Isabel. The cloud formations are moving in from the south east and have a swirling effect to them. ANd from looking at Kosta's map I would say it is most definately the frontal clouds from Isabel moving in over Pennsylvania. Simply beautiful, just hope Isabel isn't as destructive as her frontal clouds were beautful tonight.
