Now I'm waiting for their approval of my three sample pictures.
So how long does this usually take?
08/03/2006 01:51:57 AM · #2
Mine took about 2 weeks... :)

Mine took about two weeks also. My first 2 were rejected. (1) for a tiny Nike swoosh I didn't take out (1) too much noise in the background. Good Luck !!

Mine took about two weeks and they were pretty rude in their rejections. I've decided not to go with them. "Please send us something else" doesn't really suffice as a reason for rejection. And the pics they rejected are my three top sellers on Shutterstock.

I'll stick with Shutterstock for now.

Wow. 2 weeks? I guess I'll try other stock site while I'm waiting.

would you guys recomend istock or shutterstock?

yeah, I've just started doing iStock, Dreamstime, and Fotolia. iStock gets the most views and sales, whereas Dreamstime is in the middle and Fotolia gets the least amount of views

I've only had my stuff up for like 2 or 3 weeks, and have only 10 -40 images up at any given of the sites, and I've sold one photo from each, $0.99 a week or so ago on fotolia, 0.50 at dreamstime a day or so ago, and 0.60 at iStock...

also, to make it more confusing, istock accepted a pic that both the others rejected and then the other two will pick ones that all the rest reject, just best to try all photos at all sites, you'd be surprised, same thing goes for which photos are deemed to need a model release and so forth... there is no rhyme or reason to anything they do

Can you upload the same image on multiple stock sites? Or do you have to upload different pictures to each?

yes, you can upload same photo to all sites, make sure to unclick the checkbox that says "exclusive"

I Recomend:

Shutterstock
Dreamstime
Fotolia
123 Royalty Free

and Istockphoto to of course but I find them hard to get accepted to.

I find that IStock seemed to have a larger customer base!
So.. do try to get in!

Thanks for letting us know. It is one of my goals this year to get some stock in. We will see :-)

How long does it take for shutter stock to get back to you, when you apply?

It usually takes istock about a week, but could go longer. Some of the others mentioned below can take about 4 weeks to approve/deny your applications. Macro-stock agencies can take up to 8 weeks. Be patient. :)

okay, thanks

FWIW - I just applied to all of them, istock, dreamstime, shutterstock and fotolia, in early July. It took about a week for all to get back to me. Istock initially asked for a second batch of test shots and accepted me on the second batch. They are the strictest reviewers of the pics. Be careful of smoothing and color enhancement. I only have 23 images approved there (they only let you download 30 a week), but so far in the week or two that they have been online I have made the most there...with the least amount of pictures.

Good Luck,

Maya

funny, I've known people who got into iStock and keep getting rejected by shutterstock... weird

guess I'll go try shutterstock also... and 123 I suppose

oh, and almost forgot... (shutterstock, 123) if either of those has a referral program (which I think they do) does someone want to give me their referral number or whatnot? I might as well give someone the extra points/money for referring me : )

and if someone wants the same from me, I'd be happy to (fotolia, dreamstime, iStock)

Of istock, dreamstime, shutterstock and fotolia...shutterstock is only one that rejected me :-( it is ok though, I have enough to keep me busy with the ones that accepted me. It is all very time consuming!

Sure, here's my Shutterstock referral link. My member number there is 110 in case there's a problem with the link.

Ok, well I'm gonna go with the PM that I got, so the next person to sign up for shutterstock should go with the first post here and on down the line... sorry, easiest way to choose I suppose : )

and Melissa, I'm assuming that the 123 link in your signature will do a referral for you there? (if they do referrals that is) I guess iStock only does referrals for you if you are getting someone to buy photos

: )
