In trying to buy a new lense right now, I am thinking it would be quite helpful to have user ratings/reviews for lenses/cameras etc. in the Equipment section. Forums are good too, but it would probably be easier to find things if it was an actual section, and cut back on the repetative questions on equipment suggestions in the forums. What yalls think?

Try the photozone.de website. It has both extensive reviews as well as a database of user ratings. I've found it very usefull!

I agree. I think this is somewhere on "the list." In the meantime, I use dpreview.com for cameras and fredmiranda.com for lenses.

What about other equipment... monitor/printer calibrators specifically, but also memory cards, printers, monitors, etc... I think something user contributed (like amazon's star rankings and comments) would be great.

I know - "it's on the list" but know it's wanted! :)

Thanks for the great job you guys do running this thing.

I agree, that would be really good.

Other than being really useful for members, such a feature could draw new people here too.

If such a thing were implemented today in 12 months time it might well become a tool to attract members as fotomann suggests. I would still use Fred Miranda for lenses as they already have excellent reviews on most lenses on the market today and would most likely remain my first port of call (not that I'm ever going to buy another lens - ever)
