If the police are taking the search seriously, this would be SOP. Hopefully they'll share the results with the family.

i think thats being investigated.
I think either his family or the detectives on the case can get the info...but am sure there must be some hoops to jump through to get it.
Credit card and phone history will hopefully turn up some clues.

Again, as hard as it is we are all just gonna have to be patient. In a Missing Persons case several things go on at the same time. They have to get subpoenas to check various financial records, and cell phone records. It's also important to realize that the police also have to wait for family to arrive so they can correctly evaluate the situation.
Adult missing person cases can be very challenging for police agencies.
As we all think of Steve, I encourage folks to also take time to think of those who know him well. As upsetting as this is for us, I can only imagine how upsetting it is for LoudDog, kirbic, TerryGee and others who know him well.
Guys, you are also in my thoughts.

Sorry for the abstruseness. :-)
I'm not a cop or anything, but my sense is that police don't elevate missing persons cases to the level of this detail unless there is some good reason to suspect foul play. Getting phone records from the phone company, credit card transactions, etc., this all assumes that detectives are assigned to work the case. Probably not likely in a case like Steve's unless there is something found at his home that suggests a crime has been committed.

it has been quite a long time now. I keep calling hoping the busy signal turns into a regular ring...i keep turning on my yahoo hoping to see his name lit up. I spoke to him daily online...something that is missing in my life now.

Actually given that there's no contact for several days and he has a medical history it's probable that this is being investigated to this level. When a report is filed, depending on the agency it will be assigned to an officer/detective for initial evaluation. Also given that the greater Phoenix area has two serial killers operating in the area, I'd imagine this is getting a solid look.
Most departments do not want to risk the black eye of ignoring a missing person only to have it come back later that a crime was committed.
The investigative process takes time. Unlike an episode of Law and Order we don't get resolution in an hour morse the pity. :/ |

I hope you're correct. I just envision an overworked police force in a major metropolitan area, dealing with major stuff. It's easy to see a missing person getting lost amongst "the small stuff."

| LEO can obtain activity on a card by making a call. We had a way to identify them. We did this all the time when I worked in investigations. Plus CC commpanies have systems to monitor unusual activity. |

| I know LE knows what they are doing. I just hope they treat it as a crime scene from the start so that no one touches stuff that could have evidence on it. |

Having only now opened this thread I'm so sorry to hear that Steve is missing. I hope with all my heart that he is safe and well and that friends and family hear some (good) news on this very soon.

This is just a possible but if DPC is his default home page (as it probably is for many DPCers) and assuming he has cookies set to keep him logged in (which many of us do) then anyone who switched on his computer and opened up his internet browser would have effectively caused DPC to log him as having logged on. So it is possible that he himself didn't visit DPC on Sunday. Of course, it means someone else was in his home and switched his PC on, which is not a great thought. But I'm simply offering a potential explanation for the question above.
Truly hope he's safe and well and will be watching this thread for news.
