If you shoot true, as nature and God provides... I would like to view your work. I don't give a rat's hind-end if you can move and manipulate and shift and coloUr and tint and bend and highlight... and make a pic what could NEVER exist in the real world. I don't want anyone to respond to this if they think PS or any other post shot production software is a gift from Heaven. I want to meet people who hold true to nature and light and angles... and photography as an art to be discovered; not invented. If you are of like mind, drop a line here kidney_pie@hotmail.com and share your work with me. If you are of the mold who thinks it is ok to manipulate and change and create because it is easier than looking, and thinking and working out the problems...don't even bother to respond. I will not reply and I really don't care what you have to say... I am looking for those who still find photography a challenge and a skill... if you do more than crop, resize and post... I will not reply. Come on folks... those of you who understand showing a photo rather than creating and manipulating one... drop me a line...

What about rotating?
07/28/2006 12:34:33 AM · #6
Sounds like you suffer from PS envy my friend. All decent photographers do some post processing. Either at a computer or in a lab. It's a puzzle to be put together.

I agree Ansel Adams did tons of lab work, and instead of cloning out a tree, he chopped it :p

Even photography greats and legends of the past that shot with film used the darkroom...is that trash also??
07/28/2006 12:43:56 AM · #9
what about the processing that's done inside the Coolpix? for shame.
07/28/2006 12:44:29 AM · #10
Rotating is good to go! :)
07/28/2006 12:45:21 AM · #11
Turned off all the Coolpix processing. I don't use sharpening or redeye stuff... nope, sorry... wrong guy to ask.

It's a secret to be discovered... not a subject to be created. If ya canna find the subject when it is right in front of you... post-processing only makes it easy to satisfy the personal ego... envy? Naw... skill.. come over to the natural side... see if ya can cut it there.

Forgive me. I'm confused.

God and nature provided for red eye?

Surely rotating is bad? Cheating?

Agreed...decent photographers use it... clever and original and skilled photographers do not...

Try this guy. He hates post processing too!

I'm probably more inclined to agree with your views than most here, but you lost me when you said " ... and photography as an art to be ...". That excludes me because I'm not trying to be an artist, just a photographer.

Instead of asking for people to e-mail you, why don't you explore around our portfolios and challenges to find what you like and then contact those people. You may want to start with the recent Straight from the Camera challenge.

Nawwww....'cause often we turn the camera to get a view... then have to rotate it to get the balance. And many do not look at the horizon... so it has to be set straight.

Unless you are shooting ferrotypes I don't want to even see you post. I won't read it, nope, no way it's not gonna happen.

My four old niece takes pictures with her Fisher Price camera and does no post processing..is she a decent photographer?
07/28/2006 12:51:13 AM · #23
I get your point Jimmie, and I understand where you're going with the thread, but if you think your cam isn't helping you out with some internal processing, you're deluding yourself. at least some post-processing of digital images in inescapable. without it it's just a bunch of Is and Os.

there's a difference between processing and manipulating for certain, but extreme purism is a fallacy.

well...that's my opinion, anyway. but what do i know?

But how is that "looking, and thinking and working out the problems"?
