I'm sure most of you have seen these pictures or have heard of the methamphetamine epidemic that is ravaging our country/world. Meth makes people go insane.

| I wish I had those pics the other night - we had a young 20 yr old guy who came in to the ER - hit a telephone pole with his car while on Meth. Guess he is still "new" to the drug. This may or may not have helped him, but anything would have been worth a try. |

Sadly, the prognosis for him getting off of it is not good.
Meth addiction has been shown to be directly related to supplies. Until our government cracks down on the manufacturers for irresponsible sales and cracks down on the supply flow from Mexico it is only going to get worse. |

Hell its gotten really big here in VT. When I worked security at the hospital here, we had to deal with at least a couple of meth addicts a night. Its never pretty. One of the many reasons I burned out of that job and left.

Hey! I saw her husband in a movie once...
On a more serious and personal note- My 22 year old daughter went on that ride and almost killed her several times...
...and no, I did not do any effects on that photo.
Thank God (literally) that she has come out of that. She is still trying to rebuild her life and is paying heavily emotionally, physically and financially for the pit she dug for herself.
Warning: Preaching Ahead
Admittedly, I all but wrote her off for dead several times and I could not even take seeing her like that. For those of you who don't pray, don't believe in God, etc. trust me when I say that all the drug counseling, drug enforcement and legislation, intervention, etc. has nothing compared to going straight to the head honcho and continually asking Him for some help. No treatment, incarceration, counseling or therapy has a more lasting effect either. I have witnessed it countless times in my own life (even as an atheist) and as one who is a practical, logical, cause-and-effect thinker, the results are what counts and are undeniable in my experience.
It is amazing to me that people say they would do anything to save their child, but when it comes to a potential solution involving God, that is out of the question. I know. Been there done that.
I am not a preacher or an evangalist, or even a good Christian, but it would simply be inhuman and immoral of me not to share this with anyone who is going through this and has an open mind.

I dabbled with meth in the early '70's, it wasn't nearly as available as it is now. It's very powerful and I really liked it! If it was more easily available, I could have very easily have had a problem too. Fortunately for me, it never got past the recreational stage.
I feel sorry for those who are in it's grips. |

| It's definately not something you want to be doing to yourself. Any type of amphetamine is shown to cause brain damage. That includes adderall too. The addiction however is the big problem with speed because once you start it's hard to stop (obviously, but it's really bad in this case). Meth is the #1 priority of the DEA right now iirc (that might have changed). Oh and believe it or not you can still have crystal meth prescribed for you. I think this thread is very right to say don't do meth. |

Been there, done that in the late 80's, but managed to get away before it got me.
(never made me as pretty as any of them though)
It's a strong enough crutch that in order to get away from it, I had to literally move and never see anyone I associated with in that lifestyle.
There's so much of it here in Southern California it's insane.

In my county, which is not heavily populated but covers a pretty big piece of land, there are 208 children who have been removed from their homes in the past year...and 74% of the removals were directly related to meth. The parents were either manufacturing, dealing, transporting, or abusing the drug (or all of the above) and neglecting their children as a result. It's so sad and disheartening. This county has a large lake and lots of recreational traffic, which seems to be a magnet for a more transient, lower-socioeconomic, less-educated population who "work" in the meth trade.

The people I know that dabbled in it initially started taking it to lose weight. I think images like this are good because it shows that yes, you lose weight, but you also gain some other external blemishes. A lot of time the addicted, can stop at any time, brain damage stuff is always something that happens to other people. Only one time, only enough to lose 10lbs etc. For some people the physical effects can be more disturbing than all the other stuff, esp to people who start doing it for vain reasons to begin with.

My forensics professor from last year was from, I think, Iowa, where she said that they were teaching kindergarteners what meth labs looked like, because they were so commonplane, and so apt to blow up. The hope was that if the kids recognized one, they could get out of the house before anything happened.
In my college town, not too far from campus, a house did blow up this past spring, from a meth lab.
The whole world has gone mad...*sigh*

Also commonly referred-to as Speed.
Methadone hydrochloride is a long-acting synthetic narcotic, developed in Germany during WW II when its access to opium poppies was cut off, which is used in the treatment of opiate additction and for pain management. |

Yup, when I was bartending I saw quite a few young tweakers (meth heads) that were already starting to look like this in thier 20's :-(
FWIW, it's never a good idea to put anything made with fertilizer and brake fluid into your body.
