I am in pro course right now. They do teach about everything from digital to film, from Photoshop to film development... from photographer's eye to lenses... DVDs are very useful; books are very easy and fun to read.

They teach you everything that you should know about photography. If you are able to finish the way they teach, you should not have any problems succeeding out there :)

Oh.....don't make me go back to school, lol! I sounds GREAT!

I've only gone through the first couple lessons, but so far, it's NOTHING like school. I'm so loving it! Because I work full time, it's really important to me that I don't actually have to show up anywhere at any specific time - I did one of my lessons during a bout of insomnia, which tends to happen a lot.

I just opened the box with my Lessons (took about two weeks to get). Anyone else get the revised edition Complete Course? The letter enclosed reads "Congratulations! You're among the very first to experience NYI's revised edition of the Complete Course in Professional Photography."

I just started Unit 3 last night. I will say that NYIP has taken me back to basics and boosted my creativity.

I'm surprised in some of the stuff that I've forgotten to think about. I'm definitely thinking more artistically lately.

BTW, Unit 3 is brilliant :-D

I like the little book they send with unit 1 that has the "tips" for your camera settings in different situations.

I will adjust my camera settings, but forget to set the aperture, or shutter speed..etc.. its good to have a guide.

Hey Leroy, are you going to do the nude course too? You konw its optional ;)

Nah... I find that stuff offensive, ya know? :-P

If it's as good as the rest of the course has been, you better believe I'm gonna do it. Might take the photoshop course too.

I wanted to enroll in the photoshop one too. My GI Bill pays 55% so why not.

My problem with the nude course is finding a model! My sister said she would model for me though. Maybe I just need to find some hot fire fighter to pose for me. ..... :)

Really, finding art models isn't hard at all. I definitely wouldn't let that decide if I take the course.

Hot fire fighters, hmmm... JamieLynn's hubby is a firefighter :-D

So I have read half of the first unit (fighting a migraine for 4 days now) and I think they do a really good job with the details.

You might want to check out //www.ModelMayhem.com theres no shortage of models willing to take there clothes off for photographers on that site. I have worked with several of models from my area and have had a very good experience with all that I have worked with with.

so hey... now that I've registered... how lond does it typically take to get all the stuff?
02/15/2008 10:28:26 PM · #72
read the thread because I've been thinking for LONG time about taking this course, also. Haven't talked to Eddi in long time to see how it worked out for him.

As far as the certificate vs diploma vs degree thing...here, and mind you I'm a redneck from Mississippi, and there are NO colleges to TAKE photography classes at...IF one has a degree one can get certified by the state to teach after 18 college hours in that subject area...One can not "teach" for state pay with a "certificate"

Your inspiring me to want to sign up for the class...that's for sure...good luck to everyone!

Just for the fun of it, I've created a portfolio folder for my Unit Photos.
I would upload Unit 2 now, but I can't seem to remember what was what. I'll do that when I get the Unit back.

I registered on-line on January 31 and received Unit 1 material on February 06. I live in Virginia.

I love the couse so far. NYIP has updated there courses with CD's, and adjusted to the digital photography world. It's great so far. Im still working on Unit one, but I think this couse will help me tremendously.
