It's interesting that this thread has pooped up . I have been considering enrolling in the class for a few weeks now. I have sought out DPC members that have enrolled and have very impressed with their feedback. I can not seem to find anything that that would indicate that NYIP would not be a good experience. I'll probably sit on the idea another day or two then enroll.

I have two more lessons and I’m done with Unit 4! It has taken me longer to finish than I would like to admit, cause I have been augmenting my studies with Photoshop books and have already gotten into the portrait business (which has been taking up most of my spare time outside my day job & family), but NYIP has been a very good course – really grounds you in the fundamentals. You can find most of what they teach on the web or in other books, but they do an outstanding job of summarizing what you really need to know in about 30-page lessons w/ tapes (saving you a lot of time and money). Good stuff for the money – I highly recommend the course!

Before you enroll, request information and then sit on it for a month or two. They will send you a coupon for several hundred dollars off the price. I just got a $300 off coupon in the mail from them. I think it is now time to enroll.

I do not see a place for watched threads so I am not sure where to put this. Thanks in advance for any help with my lack of DPC knowledge.

At the top of this page there is a drop down box that reads "Thread options". Change it to "watch" and you're done. You can then pull it back up later by clicking on the "watch thread" graphic in the bottom right corner of the home page.

Woohoo! I'm so excited! I just received my first set of lessons today! They look really good and I can't wait to jump into them!

This is probably a dumb question, but it says upon completion of the course you'll recieve a graduation certificate. What's the difference with having that compared to a college diploma/degree?

I am calling and signing up on Thursday of this week. I just found out that my GI Bill covers this school, so I plan to do the photography course and the digital course eventually.

Cant wait to get started.

Oh! Um.... it's all very academic, really. Certifications are like light versions of degrees, mostly, and degrees require you to take more crap classes. :D That's my take on it. It really depends on who's asking and what they want, though.

And YAY gwe21! So exciting, eh? I've worked on a couple lessons from Unit 1 and I'm really enjoying them!

Is it worth the money? I know online colleges are looked down on. How much can an online photography school help your career? Who would really take you seriously with a certificate from an online program? Not trying to be a butthole, just would like to know what people think about it. If people think its really worth it, then I would be interested in seeing what they have to offer.

DPC should try to get a training program of it's own going. This is an amazing place to learn. DPC could have it's own training program with a Certificate and everything. One day maybe it can get accredited.

Maybe someone should try to design a training program that members can enter, and progress through until completion. It should be hard work to get a certificate so it really means something.

online programs arent necessarily looked down upon. I have a MBA from University of Phoenix online. Took me 6 years to complete (including my BSB/M). My hubby has a very high ranking job with an online degree as well. He got his MBA from Tourou University and will be getting a PhD from there as well.

Also, there are TONS of programs you can take online that are legit. With the advance of the internet, taking online courses have become the norm.

I have read great reviews on NYIP. I have been researching them for a while. I went and talked to the director of the Photography (Arts) program at our local univesity, he recommended NYIP for me since I already have a degree.

So I am gonna give it a go.

And it's good to note that NYIP isn't an online program. You can enroll online, but otherwise it's a correspondence course, which colleges have been doing for ages and ages. Now, the exclusively online colleges with no accreditations are frowned upon, but that's an entirely different subject.

Oh! And it took me about a week to get the first envelope with a confirmation letter, student ID, and course outline and another week to get my first lesson. :D

If it gives me the focus and structure I need then I will be a happy camper. I took photography in college... my professor was so burned out he didn't give a crap. I learned how to open my film canister with a can opener in a pitch black closet... that's about all I can say about that experience. It's what you make it and I am gonna make this the best!

There is a significant difference. Degrees are the best and typically require three or four years to earn. Diplomas are next and have a more practical sense to them. A diploma may take two or more likely, three years to earn. Degrees include a lot of theoretical information combined with practical knowledge.

A certificate is good but it depends upon the school. Degrees and diplomas are normally regulated by the government or some higher learning body which gives them credibility. Certificates are not normally regulated and therefore have less credibility.

It's funny that this post came back up just now. I enrolled a couple of months ago and with my hubby getting ready to leave for 6 months I decided to enjoy my time with him till he left.

Well he left... Not one hour ago, I gathered all the material they had sent me in order to make some sense out of it so I could start this weekend. Listened to and read the first lesson and it's looking promising. Turning out to be exactly what I hoped for and needed. Technical as well as taking a look at what to look for. Can't wait to dig into it! My sister 'graduated' recently. She has profited from it photographically and financial... selling her first photo from a gallery in town not long ago for $300.

Lots of posts here from students. Just curious, who did the Profession Photography route and who (if anyone) did the Digital route? Just wondering how basic the Digital program is.

I went with the professional course - the digital sounded like it was a how-to-photoshop course, but I would love to hear what people who actually took it have to say!
