Hi everyone! I'm new to dpchallenge and was hoping to get some CC on a few photos. I was thinking about entering these in a local fair and was wondering what others think before making a final decision on which ones to use.

Hot air balloon during sunrise launch - June 2006

Spring blossoms - April 2006

Watching the birds - June 2006

The water lily shot is far better than the rest. Very nice photo.

The dog shot with the lens flare and for other reasons I don't care for at all.

The balloon shot - nix the tree, more of the baloon.

The other flower shot is ok though possibly work on getting more of the color of the blossoms to show up.

Nice work.

Of all of them, I think Spring Blossoms is the strongest.

What are the categories and how many can you enter in each?

actually, with some cropping of the top and left, putting the flower into a thirds position, this really could look quite nice.

To add another voice, Balloon is by far the best! I love the way the image is grounded by the tree in the foreground. Great colours, interesting image with some Wow factor - so critical in competitions.

lens flare in a bad way. only to be used in certain situations, this is not one of them.

Here are a few other pictures I would consider entering into the local fair. There is a 2 entry limit into each category (landscape, b/w, sepia, collage, animals, people, etc). Feel free to leave more comments, I really appreciate them!

Of those I like the concert view of kenny chesney the best, artistically speaking. I'm sure some of the ladies might think the closeup is better ;)

I agree with this. It's the most natural looking shot, and the light on his face isn't the best in the close up shot. Of the others, I would probably go with the hot air balloonfor competition. The water lily is technically a better shot, but flowers are very very very common subjects and need a lot of wow factor to catch a judge's attention. Your lily is mired in mud and has no real visual punch to it. The balloon could do with less tree, as wavelength said, but it's the most competition-friendly of the bunch.

I like the hot air baloon the best. It's clean and simple. I sort of wish the tree branches weren't there though. I'm not sure they add a lot to the picture.

If the leaf wasn't there I would like the water lilly more...don't get me wrong I like it, just think without the leaf it would look more like it was coming through the mud by itself. I do like the blossoms the best...has good frame coverage, the color is very nice, and the lighting makes it all the more interesting...that would also be my pick of your lot.

I like the hot air balloon best as well.

The hot air balloon is my favorite. The waterlily is nice, but would need a lot of cropping to fill the frame. The concert shot of Chesney is the best of that series. (I wouldn't use the close up. The missing arm is distracting.)
