A friend and I started a party plan business when the children were small. We bought materials at trade prices then made children's clothing ( simple tunics, tops, baby dresses, sweat shirts personalised with names or pictures and all made from bright coloured velour ) and simple wooden toys such as 6 piece jigsaws, name jigsaws, blackboards and easels, mobiles for cots etc and then sold them by taking orders at party evenings and delivering them about a week later. We got our first parties through friends and usually at least one or two guests at that party booked an evening and so on. We started in about September and by Christmas we were so successful we were inundated with orders. We had to make the decision whether to develop it into a real business and take on premises and all the paperwork and regulations. Unfortunately my friend's marriage collapsed at this point ( alcoholism of her husband , not due to the business) so it all folded but it was great fun and really made a lot of money!

You can try selling beer to underage kids. I always seem to make a nice little profit that way.

And although not as profitable you could target middle/high schools and sell them cigarettes. The repeat business with this though makes up for the low proft margins!

:)

Gambling is another GREAT way to make some money on the side. Start buying more lottery tickets and learn to play craps. And make sure you ALWAYS stop for a dice game on the side of the road when you see one.

OK, my last tip and it's a good one. Learn how to fall!!!

Seriously just start walking into stores and make believe that you slipped and fell on something that was on the floor. Start filing lawsuit after lawsuit and you will be shocked to see how much money starts pouring in for you.

Here are a few to get you started

and if you are not into micro stock photography you can always check out

However after a few thousand images I have come to the conclusion that even though you sell each image for a lot less on the micros, you may significantly more sales (i do anyhow), so $/image is actually better on the micros.

I said stock photography earlier in this thread actually (I'm so invisible sometimes)

sorry :*

I'm working for Melaleuca right now doing animation and video work for their big convention. No scam here.

If you don't mind sacrificing your relationships with all your friends and family for money - and working your butt off finding other people to help you build your business (people to sponser) this works. Every year I do this I have a list of 200 more people that have made it to the $20,000 a month range and are being awarded new cars for their efforts.

MLM companies have created a significant number of millionaires in their history - but you have to be wired right (or wrong some may argue) to make it go.

I have five other aquantences that are in the $10,000 to $70,000 a month range with Xango. They have no friends outside of the company, but they don't seem to mind.

By their own figures, only one in five in a year gets beyond "developmental" level, and the highest earner in that bracket earnt $3402 (the lowest earnt $24 and the highest average was $473). So - even the hardest workers probably spent a year working for slave money. At the first leadership level (where 75% of people who have qualified as "leaders" work) the highest annual salary is $7487. Again, barely a living wage. Only 4% of leaders (that is 4% of the one in five who get through the developmental stage) get an average salary of over $22k. There is then the steep curve (still not paying stratospheric salaries) until you get to their top earner, earning $1.8m annually (in a bracket where the average is still only $180k).

So: slave labour for the masses, for the benefit of a very few. The kind of promise you have implied with your talk of 140k salaries is very misleading, when that applies to so very few workers, the majority of whom must be working for less than minimum wage to support the higher echelons. Even the company acknowledges that talk of high example wages should be accompanied by a copy of their spreadsheet setting out the detail of the slog it takes to get there (presumably on their lawyers' advice). This is not a healthy business at all!

Great thread everyone! I've run my own DJ business part-time for over 11 years now, and I'm getting into stock and portrait photography (go figure). So, I can relate to the part-time income idea. I'm always on the lookout for more, so keep them coming! I would love to find something that my wife could do once school starts up again for the kids. She did some house cleaning in the past and the money was really good, but something she could do out of our home (NOT daycare!) would be ideal. Keep the ideas flowing...

Sounds like corporate America to me.

It's all connections, who you know, who you can screw. MLM puts a nicer face on it, but it's still a numbers game. The guy making $70k a month hit a point where people in his downline where quitting as fast as they were joining -

So he came up with a way to push more people through the grinder. The more pasta you throw against the wall, the more is going to stick - even if the old pasta is dropping off - the exact phrase he used.

Just to be clear I hate MLMs as much as I despise the gigantic beauracracies that support the $5 million annually CEOs - IMO though, if you're wired right - you've got a helluva better chance of making it in an MLM than working your way from janitor to the white tower of ANY corporation.

Now back to our regularly scheduled creative income program...

I am not so sure: at least junior staff have certain employment rights and benefits while working for big business. They are not lured in with promises of unrealistic prospects. The MLM model depends on exploiting others by getting them to work for little or nothing to support your own personal gain. I find that problematic.

Another one came to me in my sleep, last night.

This one is especially good for anyone who does wedding photography or for stay-at-home parents.

Sell invitations. You can get a catalog (huge thing) from the company that prints them. When I did this I simply went to a party supply store and looked at their invitation catalogs, noting the names of the companies. Then I called the companies and told them I wanted to be a dealer. My only caution is that you get an up front deposit to cover your cost; and that you get them to sign off on the proof. It can get really ugly when invitations come back wrong!

If you have good handwriting or know calligraphy you can perform an added service by way of addressing the invitations.

i worked with a women whose husband was a secret service agnet (presidential detail too, not watching the dog or the wife). Anyway, the word is 10 yeras a go iraqi dinars were worth about what a dollar is worth, and one day will return to that level. they are currently 1c on the dollar.

So buy a suitcase of dinars and hold them. I got one, a 250 dinar note. Looks like something i could print at home, and then have a suitcase of them. got it as a tip...have considered making copies to give as tips..would save me 20% on eating out, right?

What's the law on counterfeiting foreign currency?

It doesnt work that way (99% of the time). WHat the govt of Iraq might do is change their currency value. for example they might announce that from now on 100 dinars = 1 dinar (this usually is accompanied by reprinting new bills). and then from then on it could be equal to a dollar. so i dont think this is a good idea

It can be more than that -but you have to buy the ref outfits, attend cert classes, etc. My former assistant and his dad ref soccer and there are two refs to a game, and if one doesn't show you get BOTH checkts. $60 a game is about average, but you often get 2 games or sometimes more in one place on one day. You gotta be fit though!

You can make money with any of the home party businesses but you have to WORK at it. And it can be somewhat seasonal, with october/november being the best time of year. Only 1 in 10 people really make big money (like the $2000/month you mentioned).

Throw some harmless stuff into a pill and market it on-line as penis or breast enlargement drugs. I read an article that those things make huge profits!

If you live in Minnesota....(or possibly other states that Im not sure of) there is a totally legit company called 'Young America' and they process rebates (like walgreens rebates and cell phone rebates that people send in) You work for them from home..everyday you go pick up your batch of rebates that need processed, then you take them home and process them through their website...and you get paid by the hour. I did it for a while, but now I homeschool so there is not enough hours in the day! :)
