...that we can only enter in ONE challenge per week? What's wrong with entering in both basic challenges? I'm new to the site, so maybe this has been discussed to death, but I really don't see the problem with allowing entry in more than one challenge.

The "exclusive open challenges" came about because the original, single open challenge was receiving 5-600 entries each week, and a lot of people were balking at voting that many images in a single challenge. So they made it a "pick 'em" situation to keep the individual challenge entries at a manageable level.

Too many entries + less ppl willing to vote for challenges + many pics overlooked = total chaos...No one gets what they want. DP ppl go insane and no one learns from experience if overlooked.

I guess that makes sense. It's just a bummer to have taken so much time making a good image for each challenge, only to find that I need to eliminate one of them. I must have missed that part in the rules...and I don't see it anywhere in the FAQ either.

A significant number of other people have had exactly the same problem. The "exclusive" refers to "mutually exclusive", but that's not clear from context for new people. A number of us have tried to find better wordings to reduce the confusion, but nothing that has been a clear winner yet. Any ideas? Maybe a fresh mind could come up with something.

Well, I think that putting something in the FAQ would be nice. Adding something in the "Challenge Rules" is definately a good idea, too, 'cause it seemed ridiculous to me at first, but once I read the explanation it was obviously a smart decision on the part of DPC. I think that if people read it in the Rules, it would make for alot less confusion/disappointment in the future.

It was announced in this thread. It was posted on the left hand side of the front page for awhile, but has since gone away.

I was quite surprised, and annoyed, when I tried to enter the second one only to be told no.

The problem is trying to crush the concept into very few words. Also not keeping the exclusive challenges on the same line on the entry page.

If they just had a heading with the two below, like so, it'd be fine:

Open Challenges (for members and registered users): Enter only one
Challenge 1 Challenge 2

And then in the details/submission page for each, say: You may only enter one open challenge at a time.
