Hi all! I had a really fun shoot in my studio today and thought I'd share a few cause I'm pretty pleased with the results. Some have issues, I know - lighting specifically. She's soooooooo tall (5'11 plus 3" heels) that I had to back her up much farther than I'd normally place someone in there, so the background light spilled onto her, ruining my intended lighting in a couple. Stupid me didn't notice until post-processing.

Anyhow, here's Brooke. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions? She wants to do a family shoot in a few weeks and I'm thinking I'd like to barter with her. The family shoot for free in exchange for modeling for stock stuff for me. I hope she goes for it. :)

i concur... it looks like she's a little red in many of the photos-- you mentioned some lighting issues, so maybe that's a result of this... i think you could fix a lot of it with some photoshop work.

the other thing i noticed was the way she was holding her hands in the standing shots. it's a little distracting to me. :)

really great work overall... no harsh shadows (except for the dark one, i'm guessing that's intentional) and some creative shots! i'd be proud if they were mine!!

I like them all except the last one. The pose looks very awkward for her height. Excellent model btw. I'm going to try this one pose on my aunt. She's always looking for pictures and is also very tall. 6 foot barefoot! I always have trouble taking a decent picture of her.

LOL She is a fitness instructor and does fitness competitions - her next one is in 2 weeks so she's leaned down for that. That's why she wanted the shots. Some are for her and her hubby which will be in a little album and the rest are for a portfolio that she is working on to start modeling for fitness magazines. None of these are meant for her 3 year old son to see. :)

You might also try something like this:

I am only 5'2", but I have seen a similar portrait done with a very tall woman that looked amazing.

Thanks Cindi! I think both poses will work out great. I'm real excited today as I got my 2nd ever paying job. (actually 2nd, 3rd & 4th all falling into line in a row!) And I'm hoping to hear whether I'm getting a job as a photographers assistant for a local wedding photog.

IMHO I would like the head shots better with just a tiny tiny bit of softness to them...although, she doesn't really look like a soft type of woman...I guess it all depends on what she is looking for...

She is in amazing shape! Wow...wonder if I could photoshop my face onto her body LOL

On second thought...I think I would rather put myself into your self portrait...WOW...that is really classy...might have to try and set something similar up myself...do you use a timer and then rush into the shot... LOL I'd probably tip the chair that way! Or do you have someone else hit the button for you?

:D So glad you like that shot, I love it. I have a locking remote release cable for my camera, so I lock the remote while the camera is trying to focus on a spot that has no detail (background)... it confuses the lens and it tries and tries to focus until I pop into the scene (running clumsily), as soon as the camera finds something to see at the focus point I've chose (me), it starts clicking like mad and I try my best to pose. When I think I have it, I dash back to the camera and unlock the remote. The flashes are enough to make ya epileptic! That shot took about 150 exposures before I got one I liked.

Great shots, Cindi!

Brooke reminds me of a much taller version of Sheryl Crow (and younger too) - does she sing, too?
