Best Comment of the Day.....(only one a day please)

I have been thinking of this for some time to do this, due to some of the wonderful, interesting, and thoughtful comments I often receive, re some of my images.

I am sure you all receive one that touches your heart. I guess we can also receive some that don't as well. Lets look at the "positives" ones, and add "one a day" to this new thread, re the comments that touched your heart.....

I will start with one I received today.

Comment by dragonlady; This is just a lovely interpretation of your Agave Blue image...I like the way you creatively keep trying to improve your images; your talent is evident in every image...you have a discerning eye for beauty in simple line and movement. re my image called;

"Agave Mauve"

I would like to personally thank Marion Faria, very much for this comment.....

Well, I don't get many comments (yet), but today I got a very nice one. :)

From Annasense: What a beautiful shot! I'm sure your family will cherish this photo for generations to come!! Makes me want to go see my g'ma!

"good job" says a lot

Very nice idea, Shez!

From Goodman, this three word comment really made my day: i like it

I've since received quite a few more great comments on this picture for which I'm also quite grateful, but it was Goodman's comment that assured me I wasn't totally nuts for liking the picture in the first place.

I have recieved lots of great comments before but this one came to mind first when I thought about this thread. Thanks to dahkota for the kind words and appreciating my vision.

I love the simplicity of this image and the in your face triangle. The contrasting tones and textures enhance the image. This is not an image for everyone to appreciate - its not bright and flashy - but I love it just the same. 10 for your ability to capture the mundane and turn it into art

I received this one on my Glass II entry and it just made my day...it showed me that finally, someone SOMEWHERE "got" what I was saying with my picture. :)

"A powerfully poignant composition, imparting a strong sense of sadness and separation. Beautiful.

The low light on the hand really emphasises the sense of there being a barrier, which is further enhanced by the imperfections on the glass in front of the face. And since the boy is clearly in the sunlight, while we are not, there's a strong sense that it is the viewer who has been isolated, not the boy.

I could sit and look at this for ages. I have, in fact."

Thank you so much, locutus!

Bumping.....as this is a great idea, so lets see the "comment" that you like best.....

Speaking of locutus AND someone out there finally getting it, here's what he had to say about my motion blur II entry...

"I like this. The rotational blur of the wheel and the brake disc, combined with the directional blur in the background, convey exactly the right sense of movement. This is helped by the reasonably large chunk of empty road to the left of the photo for the bike to "move into".

I think monochrome is the right choice here. The slightly excessively chrome trim on the bike is definitely 50s heritage, and monochrome helps to reinforce that.

I can't help feeling that I would've liked to have seen just a little more of the bike in the shot, but I can't work out how I would've done that without spoiling the overall composition. So it's probably about right as it is.

Must've been a tricky shot to take, too..."

I tried so many different crops with this shot, some with less engine, some with more, some with less road in front.... and the feel of it changed every time. It was a really fun image to play with. Locutus' suggestion about more of the bike in the shot and how it would have spoiled the overall composition is bang on (believe me, I tried and that's exactly what happened). He also noted the blur of the front wheel, which when I first posted it I hadn't given any thought to.

Thanks for spending time looking over my photo locutus, your comment really made my day!

George

P.S.
Here's the full story of this image.

Another one from me - it's always nice when someone "gets it", and even better if they see more in the picture than you did in the first place! So many thanks to posthumous for his comments (both during and after the challenge) on my Glass entry:

Comment:
I was one of your 10s. I don't care what your detractors say or even what you say. The composition is fantastic. It truly is reminiscent of Man Ray's work.

p.s. I actually like the light fixture in the picture.

Posthumous again, whose comments are ironically full of life. ;)

I second that comment of his on your picture - read that the other day and thought it was incredible. He does good work, doesn't he?

Ubique: Man! These two guys are fine! Gleaming shoes, beautiful clothes, sharp hats and cigars. That's how I'd dress if I was actually cool. And sitting on Ralphie as well; more cool.
Actually, when I first looked I thought it was Morgan Freeman and James Earl Jones, but all you Americans look alike to me.
Terrific photograph, Steve.

An old but relatively recent comment. The "Ralphie" he's refering to is the Ralph Kramden(Honeymooner's)statue that's in front of NYC's Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Thank you Shez for starting all this.

It's great to highlight the positive comments we receive that are all too often overshadowed by the negative ones. You are one of the most positive people I've had the pleasure to meet. A Diamond in a coal mine is what you are.

Thank you. :)

It is actually me, who should be thanking you all.....

Just tonight, I have been browsing through a couple of our younger DPC members. I am just amazed at the maturity and wonderful talent we have with some of our younger members.

First there is young Kita, Judi's daughter, who talent just amazes me.

Also Deven left me two comments, three favorites, and also added me as a favorite photographer. Devens username is DevenT, who just became a member in May this year.

Actually I just like to take this chance in thanking young Devin, as he has taken my tally of my being a favorite Photographer to 69, and also people have choosen my Photographs as their favorites, now up to 200 times. "WOW", and that in less than 6 months.

I am just amazed at their talent, and also their maturity as well.

Please take time to look more closely at our younger DPc members portfolios and support them whenever we can.

from you sherpet:
By far your best image, as it has a magical feel to it..... Why haven't you got a portfolio as you are so talanted.....

on my bubbletime entry. Really made my day and made me realize that challenge scores really DON'T matter but capturing a moment does.

The comment below from robsmith made on my self-portrait entry back in 2003 is probably the single comment that touched me most especially since a number of people seemed to either dismiss the portrait as porn or as failing to meet their definition of self-portrait. Robsmith, who was a stranger to me at the time but who I then got to know, seemed to really understand my point in presenting myself in that way and expressed it so beautifully. Infact, his comment made me cry.

I've looked at this image since last night and saved/put-off voting for it until last. Why? I wanted to compare this against the other interpretations of 'self', the result is, to me, it stands head and shoulders above the rest. It's not the most technically accomplished submission, and it's not the 'little boy' factor of naked skin, so why do I like it?

Answer is I don't know why, or at least I can't vocalise why. You obviously have a lot more confidence with your body than I do with mine and I'm sure you will have received negative feedback because of this. I think this photo simply says to me 'this is me - take it or leave it'.

Could it be improved? Only in so far as I find the neacklace has been cut off too soon, but then that would unbalance the image.

I wish I could find it easier to type what I feel but I fear that I may come across as crass or have a comment taken out of context (I manage to do that with my wife all the time & she knows me better than anyone).

If you had any doubts about posting this image due to the fear of feedback I'm glad you did, and I look forward to seeing where it's placed and others comments.

I'm not in the habit of giving 10 (i.e. I never have as if you rate something as perfect how can you ever better it) so I hope you're happy with a 9.

All the best.

From Colyla: "I really like this photo! I don't know how it would have done in the architecture with other people but I would have voted it high....of course I love this kind of country stuff...

I think if the editing was done a little different...mind you...I am NOT a PS expert ... but I think this could do well as print too!"

I had a blast taking pictures of this old bridge. I used to walk over it when I was young and thought it was neat. 25 years later it is still neat.
