I'm a Paramedic that is a very enthusiastic 'hobbyists' with lots of toys.
Photography gives me a step away from what my real 'job' entails.

I would like to be come 'pro' photog...one day...maybe when I retire and have put the time in to learning the photog industry.

cheers Matthew

I am a banker, and next month I'm heading back to school for a second bachelors, this time in Finance with a concentration in International Business. The first was in Rhetoric. I have never used any kind of SLR camera in my life, digital or otherwise, though I do have some obscure lenses and filters for my Nikon P&S, and I process my shots on a laptop with PS 5.5. So most folks would label me an amateur.

However, I've been turning a fair business lately from my website (about $365 in the last two weeks alone), I volunteer as a special events photographer for the local Girl Scout Council, and I've won ribbons in three of the last four juried competitions I've entered. I wouldn't call myself a professional since it's not my primary income, but I probably do more than your typical amateur, even those with much better equipment, computer setups and software than I have. "Semi-pro" seems to fit very nicely.
