Well, I finally did my first wedding!
It was a favour for a friend and was her moms wedding which got me a little pocket money. Turned out that I knew the groom, so it was a really nice friendly and relaxed environment for my first shoot! Very small party too, with only around 20 guests.

The bride wanted lots of group shots of the family members together, though I managed to grab a few nice candids along the way, which all turned out to be my favs! Also learned that RAW rocks, but doesn;t half eat memory quickly! I had to switch to JPG or I wouldn't have finished the day! (Note to self - Buy more memory for next time!)

I gave a total of 100 7x5 prints - The couple were over the moon and have said they will definately want re-prints and enlargements! Woohoo!

Anyway, Here are my faves of the day - I would love to hear what you think of them and what you think would improve them!

(I know the large version of No.5 is slightly corupt - I need to upload it again!)

They look really good.
The selective desat works really well on the first shot.
Would make an excellent shot for the cover of an album or something.

I've got my first wedding in a few months, i shall be reading up and researching plenty before hand!

Congrats.

Thanks.

I'm not a big fan of the selective de-sat thing, though I thought I'd give it a try with that particular image, as I liked the composition, though it was a bit dull in its original colour state. I think it worked out ok!

Good luck for your first by the way - you'll enjoy it, I did!

Great job, Al!

The only nit I have is with the picture of the bridesmaid (picture 8). I took the liberty of playing with it to produce this:

Basically, run noise ninja on the jpeg, did highlights and shadows in PS CS2 with highlight % set to 80, increased the saturation generally a little, flattened the layers and then noise ninja'd it again.

Just my pass at what is still a good shot - which means it is probably not an improvement :-)

I can see your point about the saturation on that shot Carl...
I have not used noise ninja or similar before - Perhaps I'll give it a shot.
The original full size looks a lot better - I think it has lost some during the re-size and save to web process!

More than likely. My main objective was to tone down the highlights and bringing the face out more.

Was fun to do and I learnt a lot too!

I would suggest your crops, you are leaving to much room from the top of the head to the top of the picture,

pictures with croped waists, and chests are kinda funky,

on the third one you really blew out her dress and it takes my eye right to it

just a couple of cents,

Thanks Troy...

I see what you mean about the crops. The last one was a crop of a lanscape format and I could go no lower, but the other two I have no excuses for!

Now you have pointed out the blown out dress - I can really see it! I think I was more concerned with the fact that I captured the confetti being thrown! Will bear this in mind for the future (Flippin white dresses!)

Oh I think these are lovely! When I get married will you do my photos? hehe..it might be awhile...a long while...but ummm... :o)

The first one is very nice...I love it...and also the one of the couple kissing in the second photo. For my untrained eye, I wouldnt have noticed off-hand the things others pointed out, with the blowout of her dress, or the saturation or the cropping, but I do see it now. Still these are some amazing shots.

Nice job indeed. Glad to see that XT working to make you money. Just goes to show, it's not the tools it's the person!

that confetti shot is great, maybe try and crop out the bride and groom and see what you get, that would be a great inset picture in an album

I think the XT is a more than capable body!
It is my first DSLR, so I can't really compare it to the higher end bodies, but all of those shots were taken with my Tamron 28-300 (Apart from number 6 which was my 50mm f1.8 II) so with a better lens, I think the results could be vastly improved.

I hope to turn this from a money making hobby into something I could eventually take on full time. If things pick up as I hope, then a second body is on the cards. I don't know whether to stick with what I know or go for the 30D!

You got a deal Dragn, but you'd have to fly me to florida and put me up in a 5 star! ;-)
