Do you ever wonder how people come up with their user names?

Some of them sound so funky that it would be fun to know what's behind the name.

Anyone wants to join this thread to offer an explanation of their nick name?

pitsaman?

anyone?

Mine's simple... My name is Michael. MyQyl is an alternate spelling I started using back in the 70's for Pen/Paper ADD games. It's a much easier name to get on websites than Michael, which disappears quickly :)

chalcone - one of the components that make the various flower pigments possible. I worked with the biochemical pathway involving this. I figured no one else will have the strange mix of interests as I do, much less, name themselves "chalcone" in any message board.... so there. I've been chalcone for 3 years now in various boards.

No idea really what prompted my name. I'm just walking along one day and the name popped into my head, and I liked it. And here I am :)

i work as a satellite recieve technician for a t.v. station... & the tiny, bright dots that show up on the screen are "specks" when the signal is bad... i'm also quite short, so that also attributes to the "speck" part.

mush those two elements together, and you've got "satellitespeck"

Still would like to hear from pitsaman :-))

btw, timmi - is shortcut for "Timea" which is the name of my 4lbs. 1-year-old female pup.

My son, who is also user here on DPC, Jasper, has the name after our second tiny male pup.

When I signed up I thought..."What's something that reminds me of photography?" My answer was blinking. I'm such a fast blinker that almost everytime my picture is taken I either have one eye or both eyes closed. Taking senior pictures was quite an experience. The photographer had to take 5 rolls just to get about 17 pictures with my eyes not doing something funky.

Anyways... I decided Blinks would be an appropriate name for me.

vjoz is the non-icelandic-letters version of vjöz

My name is 'Völundur J. Öz' so you can see why I use those letters...

I would have done the same if there 99% less Michaels in ALL continents I've visited. Even in East Asia, where you'd think you'd be unique with a western name (nb Filipinos mostly carry Hispanic names), Michael is just so common. And my last name, Santos, get this: at the last count, there were 12 pages in the Manila phone book with that surname. I even got stopped once at the immigration counter in one of the countries I've visited - there was a Michael Santos that was on a hold-departure list!

After reading through the forum I think I need to get a new name. Mine is just my name from my days as a radio DJ and the year I was placed on planet earth! No imagination at all! :(

I thought i had made up my nickname, but then of course with my good luck, there had to be a film developer place on the net called shutterfly, i was really trying to decide if i should change it, anybody have any ideas what name i could change it too or if i should. I named myself shutterfly because i like to think of myself as the fly on the shutter, kind of like the fly on the wall.

Has anyone changed their nickname since joining dpc?

When your name is Richard and everyone else in the world is becoming a member of AOL, you go through a bunch of variants before you find something left. some seven years later...no point in changing.

first= firstborn
rich= my name
1= first one I found that worked

When I was first learning to get around on a computer (not very long ago)
I thought : I don't have a clue.
I wanted it as a screen name but it was taken, so I had to add a couple of digits.

I recently changed my userid. I used to be Pedro Marlinez...a loose rendition of my real name in spanish. I usually include Marlinez for websites since Pedro is usually gone. I dropped it to save the effort of the extra 8 keystrokes when I found out Pedro was available.

I was dubbed 'Pedro' in University by a friend who seemed to think his one vacation to Costa Rica gave him the right to rename all of his friends and speak in mock spanish.

It just stuck I guess, since my closest friends have been calling me that for 15 years now. :)

My name is Kavita.

At school I was called Kav or Guppy (my maiden name is Gupta) or variations of those.

Friends at university started calling me Kavey - I think originally (for about 5 minutes) it was Kavey Wavey like when Captain Caveman was called Captain Cavey Wavey...

So I was called either Kavey, Kavey Wavey, Kurvy Kavey or Kavey Krunch Kream (I used to feed my geek friends those because sometimes they'd be in the computer room (Fysh bowl) for so long without a break that I worried they'd pass out so I always took a packet or two in with me...)

Now it's just Kavey and that's also the name I've used online since 1991 or so...

If I can't get it I use Kaveyf or something.

:o)
