Krispy Kreme has just opened the 2nd shop in the whole of Australia at a shopping centre 10 minutes away from where I live in Melbourne. The hype started 6 months ago with a sign announcing the grand opening. People started lining up last night! The shop opened at 6.30 this morning and as I drove past the shop, which I might add had police directing traffic, a radio station had it's people down there for entertainment, one t.v station was giving away doughnuts as prizes, there was a crowd on foot of about 500, not to mention the hundreds of cars lined up. I parked across the road and asked a woman who had 2 boxes how long she had been waiting for. 3 hours was her answer and she said the line was much shorter when she started. Boy! I hope she enjoys those doughnuts!
P.s It's winter here and the rains have just started!

One finally opened up a couple years ago near San Francisco and it was crazy. Lines around the block and all that. Same thing for In & Out burger which is actually next door to the Krispy Kreme.

Yep, Just pop 'em in the microwave for a few seconds and it's just like getting them fresh off the ol' doughnut conveyor belt! :)

Mmmmm, yum ... wish I had some right now. :(

One opened here (Calgary) a few years back and yes, I actually waited in line about a week after it opened. Though I didn't wait for 3 hours! OK, so it was 2. But boy they were good.

The sugar is still in my system though.

I'd stand in line for a long time for an In 'n Out burger. Unfortunately there are no In 'n Outs in Oregon.

The last time my wife and I went to Las Vegas, the first thing we did was stop at In 'n Out. Good stuff!

Krispy Kremes are good too, but I prefer a good maple bar. Unfortunately, regular old doughnut shops seem to have been outlawed in Oregon as well. Damned yuppie health food fanatics!

Actually, there are at least three Krispy Kreme stores in Sydney already.

But yes, when the first one opened, some people (including my sister!) were willing to drive for an hour just to get some Krispy Kreme donuts.

Now, I can understand wanting to drive over an hour to get donuts from the Berry Donut Van, which has possibly the best hot cinnamon donuts in the entire universe, and gets you a nice country drive on the NSW south coast thrown into the bargain. But the drive out to the first Krispy Kreme in Sydney was to West Whereversville, the far reaches of Sydney suburbia along efficient but uninteresting suburban motorway (yes, it takes over an hour to drive from one side of Sydney to the other, even on primary roads).

I wonder how long folks would wait for some Tim Hortons coffee around here?

Now THAT is worth waiting for! :) I'm not sure if it's a curse or a blessing, but I have a Timmy's 3 blocks south and one 4 blocks north of me. DAMMIT!! Now I have a walnut crunch craving... hmmm, it's only midnight.... nice evening for a stroll... Later, all! :D

One of the best Krispy Kreme Doughnut stories is the one from Albuquerque, NM where the cops that fly the helicopter landed one early morning in the newly opened Krispy Kreme Doughnut Shop parking lot to get Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Now those were DESPERATE doughnut loving cops! You can't make that one up!

OK, now when served at room temp, Krispy Kreme donuts are good donuts.

HOWEVER, when the "Hot Donuts" light is on, the warm ones are one of the best damn things you can eat on this planet.

Much like a Double-Double with grilled onions from In-N-Out Burger...

crayon, have you been watching Seinfeld episodes? That comment sounded so much like how Jerry Seinfeld starts one of his goofy monologues.

I wouldn't. But when the first Krispy Kreme opened in Austin, lots of people did.

Three hours for a gut-bomb!? Are people crazy?

Not a chance for me - I won't wait in line for anything for more than 10 minutes. If the wait is longer, 9 times out of 10, whatever it is, I don't really need it.

Really?????
maybe i shouldn't mention the fact to those people, that about 2 years ago we were staying in Penrith right across the carpark to an allnighter Krispy Kreme's and got hungry at 3 am, so we went over and had the whole shop to ourlseves for at least half an hour..!!!! They are yummy, but the worst thing is you almost ALWAYS end up eating at least 5 too many, and then get so full you have to undo your buttons...

serioulsy though, we live like 3 hours from the nearst Krispy ( i think, unless Newcastle now has one ) and we get Krispy's for our 'Donut Drive' raising money in Netball and other sports... although i dont' think they'd have time to go off, we always eat all of them that day...!

When they opened up one in Portland Oregon a few years ago there were people that were there 24hrs prior to opening and waited in line.

How dare you !

Krispy Kreme's are worth it! HAHAHA They are the best doughnut you'll ever eat - much better than you ever thought a doughnut could be. And yes, they're horrible for you, but damn they're good! :-)

When they open new locations in areas that they haven't been in before (even in the USA - for example PA just 2 years ago), people wait in line OVERNIGHT to be the first through the doors.

Don't knock 'em till you've tried 'em! YUM!

HAHA

Unless Jesus himself makes it (even then...), no doughnut is worth a six hour wait.

I'll settle for Dunkin Donuts thank you very much. Krispy Kreme is good, however I thought all the hype led up to quite a disappointment when I fir had them.

IMO, the best donuts you'll ever have will never come from a chain franchise. Rather, it'll probably be some mom and pop joint down the road.

Look at the same store 6 months from now. It will be just like any other doughnut shop. They have this effect all over the place. I love the doughnuts, but after you get the 1st dozen, there just doughnuts. We have 2 stores near us, and they look as busy as any other doughnut shop. But recently when the 2nd store opened, the 1st week was a madhouse.

We still treat our kids to them every now and then.
