I went to the Wild Animal Park in San Diego Sunday and did the cheetah run safari. They have always "run" the cheetah just for excercise but have just now let the public view it. We were standing only a couple feet from the dirt trail that the cheetah runs. There was only a small 3 foot fence between us and the cat basically just to keep us back. It was so amazing to see it move. Click
HERE for the gallery. The other pics in the gallery were taken the same day except for the polar bears, dolphins and flamingos. Equipment was Canon 30d w/ 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS. I rented the lens for the weekend and now I really want one. :) Comments and critiques are always welcomed. Enjoy!

Bryan amazing shots. Great job and tac sharp!! Did you shoot through the fence? If so did you anticipate the position of the cat and prefocus?

Those are some awesome shots! Nicely captured! Not only is the focus perfect, but the color looks great too. What an experience...would love to be able to see that.

Thanks. The fence was only at waist level so I didn't have to worry about shooting through it. I used AI Servo mode and tracked it. This camera focuses so damned fast.

Good images, the gorills looks like it wants to box..

One question-- what are the strange symbols where the camera should be listed?

I loved the lens. Push pull took some getting used to but I like it better than a twist zoom now. It's faster to me.

Symbols where the camera should be listed? I don't understand.

Wow - you really captured the motion beautifully.

Cheetahs are one of my very very favourite animals and are so incredibly graceful when they run. Nicely captured!

Very nice shot my friend !!!
I do like Canon L lens better then every other lens
I have read you latest post about the Tokina 80-400mm
I'm the guy with the Canon 500mm, (Prof_Fate's) friend
The 100-400mmL IS is very nice lens for the prize and quality
with aperture at F5.6 you will not have any problem capturing wildlife!!
Get your ISO to 400 with a sunny day you can shoot at F/8 easy
I'm shooting with 500mm and 1.4x at F/6.3 ISO 200 with out any problem also, but you always have to use a monopot :)
Now if I use a 1.4x Extender I sill have Auto Focus but not with a 2x Extender. Only with the Tamron or Kenko Extenders you will have Auto Focus at F/8.0.Tamron makes a 200-500mm also. I have use this lens before i have decided to get the Canon 500mm, You still get at 400mmF/5.6
and 500mm F6.3It is up to you to decide what lens and what $$ you want to spent for your gear. But i know one think.....With Canon L lens you cannot go wrong( you can always get you money back if you don't like them)I hope this will help a little ,and if you have any more questions please email me
Thanks Emmanuel
