For all you podcast fans out there, I've created an unofficial DPChallenge podcast that is totally volunteer on my part. Episode 1 is 20 minutes long and covers the recent contest winners and the photographers who shot them. There is also a special feature on "DNMC - What does it mean and how can I get one?" You can access the rss feed at the following link if you have a podcatcher or agregator program like iPodder or iTunes.

If you want to stream the mp3 file directly without downloading the podcast try the following link:

PLEASE let me know what you think. This 20 minute podcast took me a couple hours to produce and I don't see myself doing it again unless there is at least SOMEONE interested in the podcast. If you downloaded the podcast please reply here and let me know what you think or how it could be done better.

Good so far, but needs more sound effects...

Boing! Whoooosh! Stuff like that.

Six minutes into it and finally, some sound effects. :)

LOL...thanks for the input. I need to find myself some really good free sound effect sites. I'm more than happy to spice up the podcast with goofy sound effects if I can find them easier.

14 minutes and my name has not been mentioned yet... I smell a DNMC... ;-)

Tell you what Art, if there is an episode 2 I'll mention you as the first person who gave me any constructive feedback!

Thanks! Should I submit a photo?

Finished. *applauds*
Good job on that! I think you should continue it, but add some commentary about the crap that goes on in the forums. Maybe an idea for next week's topic: What's a "Thread Hijacker" and why do they call him "Art"? :)

Ahhhh, good stuff. :)

Thanks again for your input Art roflmao, well my wife insists that I go to bed. It's hard to do since this is my first ever podcast and I don't know how it will be received. Thanks for the feedback and here's hoping there is enough interest for an Episode 2...(maybe I'll get better at my edits!)

Thanks Richard42...really appreciate the compliment. I know it's a little cheesy but if not it could be really dry subject material. If I keep seeing interest in the podcast there will definately be another one next week.

Thanks again all and good night.

I am saving this for work entertainment. I hope that there is a dramatic reading of at least one argument. If not, consider it a request.

Keep the comments and input coming. Looks like the early returns are unanymously suggesting that I cover some of the more interesting discussions in the forums. If there is an episode 2 I'll be sure to include this new feature.

hey lee,

very good indeed. well presented, good sound effects, good content.
my dad was a broacaster for 40 years, so i hope you don't mind if i make a little suggestion.

your speaking voice is good for broadcasting, pleasant and smooth. however, you should try to get the uhs and ums under control. i know that's very hard to do, but with a little practice, it's pretty quick to accomplish. a script might help - you probably have one already, so it's a matter of becoming aware of your vocal tics. as a teacher, i had to do that too - kids will pick up and mock anything!

how about, for a future topic, which filters are legal in Basic Editing -i've managed, unwittingly, to get myself DQed twice in the past 5 challenges, so that might help the newbies too.

edit: ps, if you carry on with this (and you should), it should have a place on the homepage!

Thanks xainart, your comments are well received. Most of the espisode was from a script but the information on the recent Exclusive Open Challenges was all unscripted as it had just rolled over and I wanted to get the podcast out the door. If there is a second episode I'll be careful to monitor the uhms and uhs!

Thanks for the suggestion for the feature discussion. I was going to do one on the differences between Basic and Advanced editing already so I could use you as an example if you wouldn't mind.

I had sent an email to the dpchallenge folks asking if they would be interested in hosting a podcast and that I'd be willing to record it but I haven't heard anything from them. Ultimately I'd love to see the podcast available from the homepage of DPC as well. Many websites have a little "rss" button near the top of their page for people to subscribe to the podcast. I don't know if I have the talent to be the "official" podcaster but I'm working on my skills just in case. :)

no problem about using me as an object lesson in how to get DQed while trying to follow the rules! if you need any details about what i did, pm me with your questions. let other people learn from my idiocy (o, how noble;-))
