Whew, these huge challenges are hard. It probably cuts down on votes a bit as voting 400 pictures is a bit daunting. Will we hit 400?

11 hours to go, 299 in. Expect maybe 365? I'm in 30-second, myself. Y'all can have your bokehs!

Nope,we will have more than that

It we do get to "400" I will vote for all of them, and hoprfully give it a go to "comment" on all of them as well.
Gee.....I am a sucker for punishment arn't I. I actually think it does me good to comment occasionally, as I feel that if someone takes the trouble to enter a challenge, they really deserve to get a comment, especially, if ones like to get comments themselves.....
Who else is game to join me.....

That's why bokeh is so high! It's all us P&S'ers who can't join ya in 30 second.

Neither Becky-Lee or I are in YET, but plan to be before deadline :)

i have a bokeh i have not submitted, wainting to see what the weather will be like to try and get my 30 sec. shot done.

Would be good if SC gave more time to vote and comment?

I just yanked my bokeh shot for a 30 second shot. I think my bokeh pic was better but figured I stood maybe a slightly better chance of more votes and comments in 30 sec. Hope I made the right chioce.

No, that would only create backlog and confusion.
We have more and more big challenges, and giving more voting time would do NOTHING to help the situation.
Hopefully, some day something constructive will be done about it.

im glad i decided to play on the other field and do the 30 sec or longer challenge. I know I will still average a 5.whatever But at least only 100 photos will be nicer than mine vs 300.

So are there any P&S cameras that have 30 second exposure capabilities? or is 30 second solely a DSLR challenge?

The constructive thing was already done, by creating the two challenges. This is just a rare instance where a large number of folks simply can't enter one of the challenges; where it is solely a matter of preference, the two challenges tend to even out quite a bit, and to frequently stay under 200 entries.

I'm 98% sure my P&S can do 30 sec exposures. Canon S50

My P&S (Nikon Coolpix 5400) can do it, up to 10 minutes on a bulb setting. I just pulled my bokeh shot for its total suckage, and I'm thinking about what I might be able to do for 30 seconds instead.

Thanks Sher...

I look at it like this. There can be about 30 star trails in the 30 second challenge. Some will have auroras and you name it. There will be a lot of nice night scene subjects and areas which I just didnt have time to get to in my own area this week. For the bokeh it is basically a free study or free for all. Just about anything can be used for a subject. I chose bokeh myself. I think it is better to (hopefully) place high in high numbered challenges then take a chance that lower numbered challenges will get you anywhere better. Either way it is just all around fun! I am already anticipating the next challenge to be announced :)

406...but will reach 433.

My money is on 450

now... getting a brown ribbon on such a huge number of submission will be a cool feat! I'm gonna submit a non-bokeh photo :)

Do you think there should be a limitation? say like 300.

Member count will grow in the future, and entry amount could go up to 500 or more per challenge, and if there are two challenges in a week, that is 1000 voting.

Hmmm...

Worth to think about it now?

LOL That's why we have 2 exclusive challenges now. Its been thought about and done. Old days was one non-member challenge per week and when it started averaging 400-600 each time it was made 2 per week.

yeah, but how do we control who gets into the 300 entries?
if say we use a first come first serve basis, then people would just submit a "booking" photo and later change it with the real thing. Unless of course, we also disable any further changes after a submission - now that's a real challenge! Interesting suggestion.

Large number of entries is one of the reasons there are now two open challenges. As the site grows, I'm sure D&L are pondering ways to keep up with the change

How would you impose a limitation? The logisitics are mind boggling. If you do it by time, the weekend shooters are put at a disadvantage, and people would be 'saving' spots and then forgetting to remove them if they decide not to enter. If you do it by seniority, the new people lose out. What ever method you choose, someone will be put at an unfair advantage

I would manage the limitation. Everyone in my favor would be allowed to enter. Cross me and you're out.
