My picture "Long Forgotten"was a truly average picture. It got no 1, 2, or 10 votes with only one 9, and a fairly consistent bell curve was formed by the rest of the votes. I believe this is the most agreed upon picture that I have ever entered. I thought it was about a 6 myself and you all averaged 5.225.

Thanks to you all,
Dick

I was one of the few that voted high on this photo.

It met the challenge description.
Technically it was a nice photograph.
But the composition could have been improved on IMO.

Less trees and sky.
More of the building, decaying wood, broken out windows?

Just a few of my thoughts.

Excellent attempt autool.

i think for me it seems like i'm too far away from the subject to receive any real impact.

Autool.....I gave you the 9 because some pictures just have a way of "taking me there"......yours was one of those pictures, and I feel it deserved a 9, IMO. :)

Hey thanks to all of you.

This is what I wanted to enter but it needed post processing. Darn!

I'll bump it 'cause I want someone to look at my Fire Plug.
Sorry I don't have any pancakes.

Dick,

I think my Past entry is the most average yet. Average.
The score is 5.491 vs 5.5 average and the distribution is an almost perfect normal distribution.

I was actually thinking about what this means and I think it means it is AVERAGE.

I think a bi-modal distribution says there is passion on both ends.

I think the presence of the huge spikes at 5 and 6 and paltry number of 2 and 9 votes says that it's truly average, but there's not much "passion" either way. With a picture which inspires "passion" you will see spikes on one or both ends and a depressed middle of the graph.

I gave your pic a 5 which is right in the middle of the curve. The color is pretty good for not using PS to adjust it and it does fit the challenge well. But the problem is the cropping I think. Your shot shows to much "empty space" such as the right side which should have been cropped by about 1 inch. Same with the left side. Then I'd have cropped another 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch off the bottom leaving just a little of the road showing.

All that would give more emphasis to the building. I wouldn't crop the top of the trees however, they are kind of interesting.

I actually lived in Byron for a while, near Discovery Bay.

What is better taking below average(less than 4.5) pictures with occasional (one in 20) Ribbon winners OR taking consistently average(around 5.5) pictures - Opinions

My average vote recieved is 5.5314. Does that make me the most average photographer? 1 in 15.5 ribbons though - so above your 'mark', Tarique.

I wanted opinions - this "doesn't fit the challenge" it is a counter question ;)

Jokes aside, I consider you a great photographer based on the photos I see irrespective of your scores.
