These should have done better than they did :-(

and .

I really thought that these two would squeak into ribbon territory, especially the still life.

I agree 100%. This was one of the best of that challenge.

gsal and scarbrd, for what it's worth, both those shots were ribbon-winners by my vote. :-)

Thanks Deb, as I've pointed out in another thread, the top 3 entries were the trifecta from Iceland, South Africa, and Tailand. Between them they have 39 ribbons. Add in Bear_Music who came in 4th, I really didn't stand much of a chance. It is nice to be listed the the company of those 4 DPC stars.

Maybe not a ribbon, but definitely deserved better than the score it got.

There were quite a few voters I felt like bitch-slapping over this one... LOL

I would say it should have got a higher score? But what do I know I suck therefor I am. You got slammed by the 1's, I think they are an evil group out to get us all.

They are EVIL, evil people I tell ya. EEEEVEEEEL!

Dave, of all the self-portraits that you did around that time, I think tis is a clear favorite of mine. That gun looks amazing and the expression on your face is exceptional.

Very... Bowling for Columbine. :)

This one was kinda interesting- it was doing very well & I thought it might ribbon but in the middle of the challenge someone started a why are there so many nudes in the christmas holiday challenge thread and the score plummeted. (notice the four ones...)
But I still feel it's one of my best- and it was my first 'professional' looking shot. So I'm very happy with it :0)

This one missed top 5 by .0000506. Man that sucked.

OMG- I just now noticed someone must have made an account for the sole purpose of leaving me a comment on that image. scary....

Mabey not a ribbon, but a litte better.

Well I had hoped to ribbon in the abstract challenge (both times), but I certainly thought this one deserved higher than 57 out of 238.

And again in the second abstract challenge:

One other that finished really low, even though I felt it was one of my best in that genre and fit the challenge (this one complementary colors) was:

So clearly my abstract style is not aligned with the voters. But someday when prints are selling for a million plus, I'll laugh. And those low voters won't be getting complementary memberships from me ;)

These I thought would do much better than they did

But that's just me

That was another one of my "ribbon winners", I believe. I know - maybe y'all should only let ME vote... :-)

I thought this had a shot for a ribbon in Color Portrait but at the same time, I knew a pretty girl would trump his dirty beard anyday of the week.

This one has some flaws but I thought it perfectly told the story of how rain effects people in varying degrees. I thought it was brutally clear that the rain might mean something different or more to a homeless, can collector than it would to you and me.

...an interesting note that two or three commentors found no connection with rain in this image. I'm still stunned by that but at the same time it was great lesson about who's voting on your images.

I thought this should have ribboned in the Candid challenge. Actually, I can't say that for certain, since I didn't look at all of the other photos in the challenge...

I love this photo for the "Passing Time" challenge, and think that it meets the challenge better than the ribbon winners did. It's a photo of someone actually passing the time.

I agree, absolutely; it was the most interesting shot in that challenge.

Mine was a bit too late to enter the Low key challenge, but I Im very happy with this one... what do you think, is it Ribbon worth.
Big bummer when I found out the challenge closed one day earlier then I thought.

Or this one, but there was no fitting challenge when I made it...

I second this whole heartedly. I kept getting drawn back to this one. Deserved a ribbon big time.

I thought I had a real shot at a ribbon with this shot, but to no avail... ;-)

7th/140 (Score: 6.725)

I thought I had a real good shot with this in the "Reflections Without Mirrors", but I was satisfied with eleventh place.

Terrific score for an image that looks pretty much untouched out-of-camera. I'd wonder if a curves and selective color with more sharpening might have scored it higher. Maybe not. Who knows. Good picture under any conditions.
