We've all had shots we thought were great. But how about the one shot of yours that you really really thought deserved to win a ribbon and did not. Post your best shot with disappointing voting results here.

Here's mine:

In the end, photos tend to place exactly where they deserve, but I was kinda' hoping for a ribbon with this one-

Maybe not a ribbon, but definitely deserved better than the score it got.

There were quite a few voters I felt like bitch-slapping over this one... LOL

I want a thread for people who thought their shots deserved to score better than average...
06/16/2006 01:59:01 PM · #5

Not so well received as it wasn't literally a horse but I thought maybe a little higher than what it got but "them's the breaks".

Everyone is their own worst critic. I think all of my entries deserve a ribbon. OK, make that almost all, but a few of mine that didn't get entered also deserve ribbons. LOL.

Think about it for a moment. If you think it should have ribboned, or scored very high, but it got a mediocre score - who is likely wrong, you or the voters?

Well, since the majority of ribbon winners on this site only get a 6 from me, and my favorite shots NEVER ribbon, then I'd say the voters are wrong.

My first submission here was awful and I did it just to familiarize myself with the process.

Pretty much felt I was robbed of the brown..

Hey scalvert.. I thought you were robbed on that milk one too.. that was wicked!

Er robbed of a good ribbon, not the brown... :)

One of my personal favorites, and got more comments than any other challenge entry in my portfolio:

Another shot I was proud of how it turned out:

And finally, a shot I saw in a "vision" and was able to make it happen in reality. I hope to redo a version of this with a brilliant starry background.

What bothered me on this one was the comment saying that their monitor wasn't calibrated, so you should make it brighter for people like them.
So if they suspect it's because of THEIR monitors, why should YOU change your shot? Sigh..... some folks.....
Btw, I love it! (the shot, I mean...)

I thought I had a real good shot with this in the "Reflections Without Mirrors", but I was satisfied with eleventh place.

i know this isn't mine, but I have never felt so strongly that a shot deserved to win as I did seeing this one...

I think it is one of the finest challenge shots I have seen on this site. I would nominate it for the most-underrated shot all time...

this was for the 2 second challenge. It finished 5th....however had two of those who had ribboned had played by the challenge outlines of shooting a 2 second exposure - the they would not have placed and I would have had my first ribbon here on DPC.

So, of course, there are different amounts of "not ribboning". :)

I was soooo disappointed when this got 4th in Conspiracy. It was a huge setup shot done in a 24 hour challenge. I had not ribboned yet and was sure this would be the first.

This remains one of my favorite pictures I've taken here and naturally think it should have ribboned. 7th isn't bad though. This was in Image Grain.

Came 19th in Burst of Color. I worked very hard on the PP on this shot and was surprised that with 8 favorite during voting it placed as low as it did. I still love the feel of this shot.

i didn't expect this to ribbon, but i sure had higher expectations for it, especially given the nature of the shot...

The first time I really tried to set something up was for the reflaction of light challenge. I took 11th with the top ten entries having some version of wineglass/backlit type shot. I was really excited with my finish and was hoping to just make the first page and missed it by something like 6 votes.

I was really hoping to ribbon with my current shadow challenge submission. its not in the cards though. im barely hanging onto a 6.000
But it is by far my favorite photo taken so far so i cant complain. I love it. I know its awesome and thats all I need. :)

I really thought this one would ribbon, but it too finished 5th. This one is my favorite out of all my shots so it really bummed me out when it didnt make it into the top three.

I have two that I thought had a great chance but didn't.

06/16/2006 02:40:24 PM · #22
I feel like I should mail you a ribbon this one is so good...
06/16/2006 02:46:38 PM · #23
I was getting my hopes up with these shots, but they placed 6th and 5th so can't complain.

06/16/2006 02:53:27 PM · #24
I had a great feeling for these shots. It just fell short ;)

And when you maintain an average of 7+ throughout the voting period, your hopes really go up ;)

06/16/2006 02:53:54 PM · #25

I really had my hopes up for both of these ribboning. Great scores and placement overall - but ribbon elusive none the less. I need to enter my best pictures into challenges where the heavyweights around here arent playing.
