For your viewing pleasure, the waning gibbous moon rising over the Wisconsin capitol dome. Details on the shot. I have a good still I'm working up from last night too.
Animated Thumbs don't seem to work, so here's the link instead. It's about a 630K file so let it load if you're on a slower connection:

Great sequence! Where did you take the pic from? |

once the moon is in full view, you could have used the same shot for the city so only the moon would be moving (no blinking lights).
great job, though! |

Here's a still from the moon shoot last night:
(It's an 800 pix wide - I know that's the new max size for portfolio shots, but is that the standard size for challenges now too?)
Replies to comments:
srdanz: Yes, it is big, but that's because I'm so far from the Capitol dome and I'm using a long focal length (400mm on a 1.6 crop factor cam). Remember, the rising "large moon" is a myth. It's the same size when it's high in the sky too.
mastermind: Taken from Bishop's Bay Country Club grounds (not a member, I trespass there regularly). I'm standing approx 4.1 miles from the dome. I use Starry Night Pro and my palm application "planetarium" to calculate the exact azimuth of the rising moon.
hopper: Yes, that would have worked well. I wasn't thinking animation at all last night. It was only after I got home and saw that I had so many shots that I got the idea. Unfortunately, I had recomposed my shot several times in during the sequence, so I had to do a lot of extra work to align the frames. Next time, I'll plan for a sequence and shoot all without moving the camera.
beetle (from comment on the photo): great idea. Unfortunately, I wasn't thinking of doing an animation at the time (see above comment) so I stopped shooting when the moon got too high in the frame. Next time! |

Hmmm interesting. I am sure I left a comment here. Oh well...love the animation...just goes to show howmuch reflection and colour the moon actually produces over the land.
