I don't know how much publicity this case is getting in the rest of the world, but here in South Africa it's a big talking point right now.

I did hear about this some time ago. I think it's absolutely ridiculous. This pisses be off to the point that I can't even come up with the words that I want to say.

I wonder... if they collected just $1 from everyone who signed the petitition, they'd have more than enough to pay for a paternity test!!!

Would that hold up in their courts? Probably not, as I see that their way of thinking is completely archaic.

I can only guess that their law doesn't allow them to force the guy to take a paternity test. And nobody's going to take one voluntarily if it spells a death sentence.

I can't believe what is happening to that poor woman. A paternity test would be a good thing but I think that stoning a woman to death for having sex outside of marriage is so barbaric and sickening that I can't fathom the reality of it.

This isn't in the news here, it was when the case first came to the worlds attention but not any more.

Any time a religion is allowed to also be the governing body of a country you will have the rights of minorities be the first casulties.

Women have so few ways to protect themselves as it is.

It doesn't matter what the religion, Moslem, Christian or what ever, there is reason for insisting on the seperation of church and state.

Cool law ,stoning to death for adultery, maybe Congress should do something similar here in the US!

Just kidding, life of the woman in the Muslim World is miserable IMO !
I grew up in similar neighborhood and witnessed inhumane treatment!

I wonder if it would make a difference to the radical Muslims if she were a Democrat or Republican? Because I have learned, from this very site, that all of the worlds problems come from George Bush and his Republican ilk.

I find that kind of article quite hypocritical.

If the news are right, Amina is at home waiting to be stoned to death.

To remove that law is a long term objective.
We are talking of human life here.

Whoever would have some minimal real interest in Amina's life should arrange for a task force to bring her out of the country.

Being Amina's at home and not in prison, it would probably require no brute force but just money...

What is missing in this world are organizations which make lots of facts and little politics while we have many which do the contrary....

you mean there is a difference?? If you think that you have two polictical parties and a healthy democracy, you are kidding yourself, and should keep in touch with the outside world.

This isn't really the place for this though! (seen any good photos today?)

Actually it is where else can us shut ins of the American media get other world views that in our own country are not discussed in the news and media lest the programers lose precious ratings points for being unpopular and the advertising $$$$$$$$ that goes with it!

The first amendment only protects porn money!!!

There I've said it. Flame away!

I heard on the radio today that this woman was acquitted by an appeals court. I my self would guess that the worldwide negative publicity had some influence ....

Yes, she was aquitted partly due to her being questioned by the police without her lawyer present when she confessed to the 'crime'. They must have learned this by watching American cop shows! In any case, it a harsh punishment for such and act, and in this case, she's divorced and wants to marry the father of the child.

On a side note, we in the U.S. can't really look down at other country's systems of law. Not after the whole O.J. Simpson incident.

Haven't you heard? Under the US Patriot Act those rights can be suspended indefinitely if John Ashcroft says you're suspected of involvement in terrorism.

Havent you guys read your Bible? It quite clearly states that death is the punishment for adultery. Stoning is just the local custom and is probably no worse than hanging or the electric chair.

Planks in your own eyes, etc.

The thing that gets me is why Americans are so interested in the laws of other countries, or trying to change their way of life and their culture.

There are WAY too many problems here in the USA that need to be fixed first.

Of course, it's probably just fine for the man to engage in relations.
I am so glad the world spoke out and essentially saved her.
I am further saddened by the thought that others were not saved from a similar fate.
Yes, there are problems in the USA. I find it nice that we are interested in what goes on elsewhere. We are all a part of the human race. We have only each other. Maybe we Americans are interested because it was brought to our attention and we are not in the habit of ignoring things that bother us deep to our core.
It obviously bothers the people of other countries too since the petition is Australian-based.
Why then are you blaming the Americans again? Jeez.
