I have to admit I have myself confused. I've been looking at lens too long and filters and it's all a jumble now! I just got a Tamron 28-75, tonight I'm ordering a Nikon 85mm 1.8 and am thinking I'd like to try out a polarizing filter. I'll be using the 85mm to shoot some outdoor fashion shots.

I'd like to get a ring so that I can use the filter with my Tamron lens too. I believe the sizes are 67 for the Tamron and 62 for the 85mm.

My question is this. Which one should I buy the filter for and then do I buy a step up or a step down ring? Even when I decide myself which one to buy the filter for I'm still confused on the wording with the ring features and don't want to buy the wrong thing.

Like I said, I'm confused, lol.

Please help so I can spend my money!! (and get this stuff on the way so I can freak out some more about the shoot I'm hoping to use them for)

Get a size 67 filter and then get a step up ring for 62 to 67.

Edit to add: This is all you need. Step up ring.

if you have different thread sizes to cater for, Always get the largest and use step-up rings for the smaller lens threads.
