In what I can only call a "Fit of mental abstraction" to use a phrase from one of my wifes favorite movies, I broke my favorite and most trusty and useable Tamron SP 24-135.

"How??", do you ask?

I went to turn on the flash, and my hand flicked the switch on the quick release plate.

"What? You did what??" Yes, I know. Goes back to that fit of mental abstraction. Fits perfectly, doesn't it?? How my brain decided a QR release was the on switch for my flash, the world may never know.

I't only half broken, still zooms, ttl works, but it won't autofocus.

I also cracked my flash housing, and the D70 popup flash is stuck open. Used the D50 instead. (Which led to other problems, but better than nothing)

Oh yeah, I was setting up for a WEDDING. Yeah. Broke 1 lens, 1 camera, and slightly broke 1 flash in a matter of seconds, right before my sister-in-laws weding!!

Oi Ve everybody!!!

This is why one so admires the manfrotto heads, which have a restraining pin that can be used to lock the QR lever. The tiny lever of the restraining pin rotates the opposite way from the QR lever, no less.

Sorry to hear about your fit of mentoid abstraction.

Oh, well, here are some of my favorites that I did end up getting. Thank God I did have a second body, and enough lenses to try to cover for the Tamron.

They look great!! Wow, love the bride and dad dancing. Really makes me smile! I'm sorry about the accident, but really proud of how you still stepped up and did a great job, you should be too!!

Couple are a touch dark. Did you use a flash, or not allowed?

Not allowed during the ceremony, so I just had the 50/1.8 and the 105 macro 2.8 to use. Worked fairly well. They had hidey holes that they let me use to get around to the very back and take pictures from in my best "spy style". As much as that can be achieved with a shutter slapping around.

I ended up using *gasp* the freaking kit lens of all things for part of it. Actually, I'm glad I had it in this case.
