Do you think images in this challenge have to be of a spiritual places like chuches and religious- simbols. Cant a Holy place just be the place i go to when i need to be alone?

Yeah, like the bathroom :-)

I think that if it doesn't convey a sense of holiness, then it will score low. If your bathroom or your tree house scream "look at me I'm HOLEEEEEEE", then you'll do alright ;-)

That's a different kind of "holey".

hmm, I think there's got to be at least something religious in it.
but that's just my honest opinion.

Likely for the voters, yes. But something like aboriginal sacred hunting grounds would be an excellent subject. I was hoping to try something like this, but it doesn't seem feasible at this point.

I'm sure this will be the challenge of a thousand churches.

Alas, that is probably true. I was going to go up to DC to take pictures of Gallaudet University...which is holy within the sign language community... then I started imagining all the DMC comments. I briefly considered going to the Krishna temple or a Buddhist temple, but then decided I didn't want to spend the money for gas to DC and back just for a challenge. I have some pictures that I took, but unless one of them really stands out later on, I might sit this challenge out. OR, try to cook something up for Night II.

Right now, it's looking like the challenge of less than 100 churches.

For me, I took some great (well, they were OK I guess :-) photos at St Paul's in London but feel honour bound not to submit them for a contest. This is because there is no photography allowed in the cathedral and I had to seek permission and agree that the pictures were for personal use and sharing, and not for gain, not that I would expect to win a ribbon other than maybe brown :-)

The stewards there were incredibly kind and allowed me to photograph in places not accessible to the general public. However, as they had to escort me everywhere, I spent a lot less time time taking pictures than I would do so...

Anyhow, morally I feel as though I cannot enter any of them into a contest but I will a few up onto the site after the close of the challenge deadline. It was a very spiritual period of time for me while I was there, a real delight.

Carl, I think DPC is more about photography and learning than it is about the contest. You obviously are not going to sell or gain monetarily in anyway from your photos based on what you posted. I think it would be OK to share and besides we're all family here anyway. Just my thought.

I agree with you, Carl. You made an agreement with the stewards and those photos are not to be published. Two weeks ago I was permitted to photograph some of the activity at an Indian Ceremony at Window Rock, AZ. The condition was that the photos never be published. I will honor that agreement and eventually destroy the photos.

I think the key message from the stewards and the Chapter House was the notion of "not for personal gain". So, I am OK to share but not to enter any contests, I think. But as you say, an agreement is an agreement and in this case I will interpret the conditions to favour the Church.

Doesn't look as though I would be any good in the paparazzi, does it?

So, after all, maybe a holy place is a place where you can feel the hollyness, right?
