Hi,

I am VERY new to all of this. I would like to buy a version of Photoshop since I have heard so much about it. But what version is the latest or the best?? Any suggestions?

CS2 is the pro current version I believe...

Looks like it's going for about $650 these days.

I have a copy of Photoshop Elements 2.0 that I will be glad to send you free if you want.

If you budget is tight, check out Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro.

If just starting out, I'd buy a Wacom tablet which includes Photoshop Elements (a simplified version of CS2, but still very powerful.) It should run you between $90-100, the same price as the software alone. Also get Scott Kirby's book, The Photoshop Elements 3 Book for Digital Photographers. Once you feel the software is holding you back, buy the CS2.

It took me about 6 months before I needed the CS2, and was very easy to move to. I also had the advantage of using the tablet without costing me more.

Thanks everyone. That CS2 was what I kept seeing and it is over $600 right now. I think I'll skip that!ha

What about 4.0 version?

You probably don't want to go back that far if you are planning on advancing forwards... There have been many changes since that version and you will find yourself lost all over again in most cases. Get the Elements version and work with that... I started out with Elements 3.0 and it is very powerful, among also being easy to use.

Sounded to me like she meant Elements 4.

I purchased the PS 6.0 on Ebay, so that I could use the $199 CS2 upgrade. I heard that once you remove the program from your computer that someone else can register it. I will be more than happy to send you this. It's a good start. I have Elements 4.0 also, but I would have chosen PS first had I had my choice.

Why would you have preferred the PS first?

I'd say that your cheaper options are photoshop elements, which is a good program -- I think that might even come with some of the books out there (which may not be a bad step anyway)...

Or if you buy a Canon camera, it comes with elements (at least I know the rebel did or used to???)...

And if you buy a Nikon camera, it comes with Nikon Capture (trial version) which you can register for like $100...some people love Nikon Capture and say it produces better colors and everything.
