Currently, the third DPC Oregon GTG is scheduled for...

Date: Saturday, May 13, 2006
Time: Sunrise (or whenever you get there)
Location: Short Sands Beach

Here's a link to a web page with info, maps, and photos...
Short Sands Beach & Oswald West State Park

Here's a link to a map (252KB)...

Stay tuned to this thread for further developments. At this point, the date, time, and location are subject to change based on the wishes and whimsey of those attending. I will try to update this post with any changes that are made.

Cameras are optional. Don't forget to charge your camera's batteries, and remember to bring a memory card or two.

Don't worry about the weather. This is Oregon; what could go wrong? :)

F/8 and be there!

Let me know when and I'll give it a try to meet, although for Saturdays in May only the 13th and 27th are good for me. (unless you want to meet at Crater Lake on the 20th. :))

Crater Lake would be a great spot for a GTG, and I haven't been there for several years. It's too far from Portland for a day trip though. Maybe we can set something up for the 13th or 20th.

...then again, nobody else seems to be very interested.

Hellooooooo people! Winter is over! Time to wake up!

If the timing were right. I could be interested.

If I could be back in Oregon, I would definitely be interested. Ooooh, how I hate missing Oregon GTGs!

Possible here.

I'd be up for Crater Lake, that's not too far from me. Sounds like fun.

Alternatively, during the summer you can ride the lift to the top of Mt. Bachelor or Willamette Pass. I bet that would be some amazing views.

Okay, we have a few maybes. That's good!

Is anyone else interested in a GTG?

Hey Mick,,,,lets do it. If its clear Mt St Helens would be cool. Carter lake might be a little to far but if thats the place will try to make it. Keep in touch......Joe

Just checked my schedule, the 20th is out for me. We are under staffed, gotta work that saturday.

I was just joking about Crater Lake anyway. I'll be there with my family and I don't think they are going to want me to go tromping off for a whole day.

Hi Joe! It's good to know that you will be there. I need someone with experience to show me which direction to point my camera. LOL!

I was just talking with Becky yesterday about going up to St Helens this weekend. It's too bad that only Coldwater Ridge is open to the public. Windy Ridge is my favorite view, but it's been closed for a long time. If we do go this weekend, then I'd like to get there before sunrise if possible. Do you know if the road up to Coldwater Ridge is open that early in the morning?

Count me in! How about Silver Falls? It's always beautiful and relatively close to center state. Also, near tulip festival.

I don't know Mick, I went up there couple of months ago but I went the back roads through Cougar to the South side of the Mountain. I'm shooting our softball team skills videos this weekend for the college recruiters or I'd try to make it up there with ya........

Silver Falls is where we held the last GTG. It's a great place though and I wouldn't mind going back again if that's what we all decide to do.

Are there any other places that you would like to suggest?

We followed that route on the way home from Windy Ridge a couple times. It's a beautiful, long, and curvy drive.

Pacific City is a little out of the way but great beach access to the north with access to great rock formations and dunes. Also has a much more dominant haystack rock than Canon Beach. Really nice pub as well:-) not that anyone drinks or anything. Personally, I don't drink anymore. Actually, come to think about it, I don't drink any less either.

Pacific City would be a great place for a GTG. My wife and I used to go there often when we lived in Rose Lodge (ages ago), but I don't remember ever photographing the place.

I'll put it on the list.

Silver Falls or Coastal areas are my choice. Where ever you people want.

I believe the idea was to do it some time in May, but nothing is definite yet.

stdavidson was supposed to be coming up here for his son's wedding in May, so I thought that we should try to arrange it so that he could attend. Steve hasn't responded though so maybe his plans have changed.

What time frame would you prefer?

My son's wedding is on Saturday the 13th, on the central Oregon coast near Lincoln City, so Sunday looks good to me. I have pretty limited time so don't plan anything around me. Would like to meet folks though.

Mick, I really haven't been trying to avoid you. I got the recent messages on the 16th and 18th but just now responding. Been working hard on a outragiously big panorama picture that has limited access to my own machine. :)

Sundays are fine with me too. The weekends of the 13th and 27th are still open although I could even do Sunday the 7th (but not Saturday the 6th).

Hey Doc, Sundays are good for me too.....We don't live to far apart, looking forward to meeting you......

Okay...just checking...we haven't got our tickets yet ... but we were planning on flying up mid/late July (fingers crossed). I'll still keep an eye out especially once we get the tickets in hand!

Okay, let's try to meet somewhere on Sunday then. I'll send you my cell number and we can work it out on-the-fly. Maybe we could hit Moe's too while we're at it (Mmmmmm, Moe's!). Does that work for you?

Best of luck with the wedding. My son Troy recently got married too, only a few weeks ago on March 25th. He married his long-time girlfriend and high school sweetheart, Kai Lindsey. She's a terrific kid and we all love her to death. They're very happy, and so are we. I'm sure that your son's wedding day will be a great day for you and your family too.

A panorama eh? I was guessing another galley showing. No matter, I figured you would get around to it sooner or later. :)
