I think sports who be a good topic. In the U.S. baseball, football, basketball, golf , biking are hot topics. Everywhere else it's soccer (football). What does everyone else think?

But there would only be space for one ribbon, since Ridergal and Arnit would naturally take first and second (not sure who'd win between 'em though).

Seems a little defeatist doesn't it?

:)

Sport would be too narrow,it is part of photojournalism, isn't it?

I think you've got a rather narrow view of the rest of the world :P

I'm all for this - just make sure I've got a race meeting during the submission dates.

I like this idea, and it doesn't necessarilly fall under photojournalism I think. You can have kids playing a game of pickup hockey, or any variation of non professional sports type shots.

Good idea for a challenge (not that you would expect anything less from a s70 owner ;). I recently went out and took some photos of the Salford Triathlon, I had a great time it was quite challenging but very rewarding.

It would be a good challenge during Orienteering season. There are some real characters in that sport!

Sports would be nice, but I sorta agree some people (don't forget alansfreed coming in with a ribbon) would have a natural advantage that doesn't exist for most challenges. "Negative space" - we can all do. "Sports" hurts when Talya goes to the NBA Finals, Stanley Cup Finals and Alansfreed takes Steelers photos...lol Kinda hard to compete with professional athletes we all know...

Oh screw it, bring it on. I'll kick they asses!

Though T-ball would be good.

LOL

Got some news for you Mavrik... a little league game can be just as good a picture as a MLB game... seriously, I'm not joking...

so yes... maybe I'd have a little advantage of being around sports quite a bit... but good solid action sports photos or even portraits (big part of sports) are an important part of photography... and if you can't do that... then... oh my gosh you might have to miss ONE challenge... seriously, there are others who are at more advantage with having a space to do portraits... I mean... lets see what everyone can do... its just one challenge!

PS for those of you who have been begging for critiques... I'll be sure to critique a lot for sports since thats what I know best ;-) so come on guys... what do you have to lose?

PPS some of the best and most interesting sports photos come from obscure sports... so bring on those mud wrestling photos, and for the really lazy... champion sleeping ;-)

Tom , beautiful shots. Some of the shots really show a lot of motion. Triathlon is the ultimate sport. Thanks for sharing.

Some of those are sports, some games, some hobbies, some weird.

They are all fine in the loose sense of what sports are, but there will no doubt be plenty of people willing to pick fights about games not being a sport and on and on. So as usual, there is a pedantic literally on topic to one line in the dictionary that is the most common usage, then there is a more free, generally on topic in the spirit of the thing. Then there will be entries of the pets because they are named after something used in a sport and we should all just have recognised that, or the cat because cat gut used to be used for tennis rackets.

I am going to weasal in a cat picture (even though I don't have one) because of all the whining on other threads about cliche'. How about the National Cat Punt, Pass, & Kick? (C;

(realize I am joking....maybe, before you flame me for animal cruelty)

Well, my guys in Black & Gold are on the road this weekend, so I'll be hitting the local sports scene just like everyone else this time around. :)

Timing again doesn't do me any good...The AA baseball team here just got knocked out of the playoffs Saturday night. So its off to the playground to photograph a bunch of "Wanna-Be Jocks" playing basketball.

Wanna join me Alan?

I think I'll take a different approach from the usual sports action shot. I'm not sure exactly what I mean, but I'll figure something out.
