Challenge Details: Frame the subject of your photograph using the window (as in from a building).

This should be interesting.

Bring on the thinking out of the box people and the subsequent DNMC people!

:D

Hmmm, who do I know that won't mind when I remove a window from their wall to take with me for this one....

How is this? I'm not quite getting this challenge. Is it "use a real window to frame your subject"?
04/17/2006 12:32:20 AM · #6
well it seems like it needs to be taken inisde a building, house, etc. through a window

I swear my entry was taken from a building and through a window - just that I cropped the window out. Darn those DNMC people! :p

That's what it sounds like to me ... use an actual window to frame/compose your subject.

It's a shame that the description says "as in from a building" -- people will think they should vote down for other creative window-framing -- like buses, cars, ships, etc...oh well.

Hmmm. That's a weird one.

Seems similar to our challenge "Inside looking Out" and "outside looking in".

The words "as in" in that sentence establish that the statement is a simile, or a typical example of a class of subjects, as you've noted.

Also, not only can you shoot "from" a building window, you can shoot into one as well -- store displays come to mind -- although some locations may involve possible legal consequences should you be apprehended (Hint: avoid Sean Penn's windows!).

I have an idea, but it only uses part of the window to frame it. Any ideas on how this one might be viewed? I also have another idea which uses only a frame because the window glass is no longer in the window. How about the possibilities of that one? Which one do you think would do better?

I assure you officer that I'm not a Peeping Tom, it's for a DPC challenge. :)

Windows do not have to have glass to qualify as windows. As for building, could the almighty be the builder, ie. a natural window?
I expect the pig-headed, narrow view, voters would cast a dim light on that!

My first thought was that I have to clean the windows in my house to get a reasonable picture... ;-)

I think the clarification is given, so that creative poeple don't use Microsoft "Windows". LOL...

Bump for the evening crowd. Read the challenge description carefully.

Frame the subject of your photograph using the window (as in from a building).

You can't use Microsoft Windows for framing your picture.

I will likely vote low on any shot trying to shoehorn into this challenge. For example:

If I see a little kid looking to the sky with the subject being "his eyes" and the title being "Eyes...window to the soul" I will start at a 5 and work my way down.

It is clear to me that the challenge is to take a shot through a window...and likely will be best if you can see the window frame and not just say "this is through the window".

We'll see how others vote!

kenskid,

What if the kid is looking through a window? Window to the window of the soul?

I actually have a great idea this time but all I need is a sledgehammer, ladder, two volunteers, and a pair of used underwear.

I'm kidding about everything but the great idea. Really.

Of course you can, remember not following the challenge description is not grounds for DQ.

Another form of "framed by a window" would be a reflection in the window. You don't have to be looking through the window.
