Does anyone have any software and/or tips on how to realistically sharpen parts of an image with a shallow DOF. I've got several baby portraits with the focus on the nose, not on the eyes...I was using F2.8 and not paying close enough attention to the focusing point. Anyway, can this be fixed?

nah...can't be fixed if a little sharpening doesn't fix it -- you may be able to get them 'presentable' in web-size, but as far as a print goes, I'd say you'd be better off reshooting.

Here is one called Focus Magic, I have heard good things about it. Might give it a demo and see if you can get the results you are after.

I've used focus magic, and like it. Depends on the picture. Sometimes it's not much better than just USM, but sometimes it truely does seem to perform magic. Give it a shot.

Focusmagic make things look sharper, but the quality of the image goes right down, you get that telltale 'oversharpenned' look from it.

If you can live with that then use FM - otherwise re-shoot.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Focus Magic does fix, but most definitely has that oversharpened look. To correct and compensate I used the Focus Magic corrected image as a background in PS Elements, and then pasted the original layer on top and deleted out only the iris/pupil of the eyes (anymore than that and you see the sharpening artifacts). Looks a million times better. Thanks again for the tips!
